“We’ll be back!”

We absolutely fell in love with the Old Piggery from the moment we walked in. Our dog is usually very stressed by new environments but even he relaxed immediately, choosing to sleep in one of the dog beds provided at night, although we had taken his!

The welcome basket was lovely and the building itself beautiful but comfortable. The setting is amazing, and although there is an adjoining barn we were barely aware we had neighbours. We hope to return soon

Specifically Recommend:

Happisburgh beach is a few minutes’ drive. We had a lovely walk at Blickling Hall which was only about half an hour away

“An excellent place to stay for dog owners”

Return visit to the Old Piggery - it was just as comfortable and warm as we remembered from 2012.

It’s wonderful to be able to relax knowing the dogs are truly welcome, safe and well catered for.

The property is furnished to a high standard with Wi-Fi and modern TV-DVD etc. Unfortunately the weather was too cold to enjoy the enclosed outside space but the location is well suited for accessing beaches and wooded walks for the dogs.

Specifically Recommend:

Very dog-friendly for multi numbers of dogs.

“Amazing in every way - best for kids, best for dogs”

Awesome in every way. An absolutely beautiful converted building surrounded by breathtaking countryside. There is something quite magical about The Piggery - very relaxing and peaceful.

Everything needed was provided - we normally bring so much stuff when we hire a cottage but really, we could have left half of what we brought as Sue has thought of EVERYTHING! We have already booked next year and intend on travelling much lighter.

My kids and dogs have never felt so at home - it takes a special place and host that allows their visitors to truly be themselves. Only real problem was getting out in the mornings - the place is so lovely breakfast just kind of drags on and it was a real wrench to get up and out every day!

Best property we have every stayed in - best owner. Sue’s ethos seems to have permeated the place. Wonderful.

Specifically Recommend:

Walking the dogs and a quick swim at Happisburgh at 7am when the moon was still showing and the seals were out in force. Amazing experience.

Summary:

“A wonderful hideaway in a lovely quiet location”

A wonderful hideaway in a really quiet location.

The Old Piggery is warm and welcoming and extremely comfortable from the moment you walk in.

The restoration feels homely and all mod cons have been included. It is very eco-friendly - details of which are on the website.

The underfloor heating is fantastic, the showers are amazing and the beds are really comfortable. The log-burner is great for the cold nights.

Lovely welcoming touches on arrival - homemade cake and cups for tea laid out - along with local jam, bread and fudge. Also this year there were some fresh eggs laid by the chickens - a lovely touch for breakfast the next day !!

Plenty of dvds and a TV with surround sound, along with full free WiFi.

Loads of books and guidebooks, along with local information to help you make the best of your stay (thatVhApLfs if you want to go out - it would be quite possible to escape the rat race for a few days and not go anywhere !!)

Dogs have everything they need - homemade biscuits on arrival, bowls, spare leads, even holiday collars in case they get lost. There is a lovely walk straight outside the door and the beach is only about 10 minutes by car. Lots of dog blankets and throws, and a big dog bed. The courtyard is completely dog-proof and a great place for them to lie outside.

I shouldn’t really be telling you all this as I would really like to keep it more of a secret !!!

Good Luck in securing a booking - it is booked up months in advance - no surprise really - it is a wonderful place !!

P.S. the owners are currently converting the barn next door - if its anything like The Old Piggery it will be an amazing place to get away from it all.

Specifically Recommend:

Everything !!

Be Aware:

The only slight negative is if your booking coincides with the local farmers harvesting the fields - they start very early!! But it’s not really a negative is it - The Old Piggery is right in the middle of the countryside so it is to be expected!!

Local Gems:

The beaches are great - dogs and children will love them

Superb dog-friendly accommodation. Walks on our doorstep, felt like a home from home.

Lovely welcoming touches, cake, home made fudge, jam and dog biscuits. The Old Piggery wanted for nothing....if Carlsberg made holiday dog-friendly places this would be it.

Owners are warm and friendly. Location-wise it is convenient for beaches (saw some seals!) lovely woodland walks...dogs were exhausted..result!!

Would highly recommend whether you have dogs or not....five stars...

“Very dog-friendly accommodation in peaceful rural location”

Extremely dog-friendly accommodation but not dog eared at all! This allows you to really relax without having to follow strict rules, which always seem to accompany holiday rentals that apparently welcome dogs.

Peaceful and quiet location which overlooks farmland. Walks straight from the door. Beautiful sandy beaches a short drive away.

“Outstanding holiday home for families with pets”

The Old Piggery is well equipped and safe for children, elderly people with mobility problems, and especially people with dogs.

The location is quiet and within easy reach of beautiful beaches. Stalham is close by for all food requirements - shops ranging from a supermarket to a shop selling local produce.

I would recommend the Old Piggery to anyone who is interested in eco-friendly properties.

Ideal location for dog=friendly beaches.

Nothing is too much trouble for the owners who will go out of their way to help you.

Local Gems:

The Ship Inn at Mundesley is good for food, dogs allowed in the bar and a play area for children.

The beach at Sea Palling is particularly good, blue flag with life guards. Look out for the seals.

The old Vicarage Gardens at East Ruston are worth a visit.

En Route:

Sherringham Park - good stop for a break, again dog-friendly.

Owner’s Reply:

’’Stewart, thank you for your review. It is always a pleasure to have you and your family here to stay you are always so engaged with what there is to do in the area and interested in what we have going on here. Obviously we are very dog-friendly but it’s good to know that you can bring all ages of children here too and they can enjoy their stay. The ’green’ side of things isn’t something we particularly promote as yet but I know you are interested in the wind turbine and solar panels, rainwater harvesters, ground source heat pump, locally sourced materials and the wildlife planting and I am sure others are too, so we might make a bit more of that one day when Running Hare Barn is up and running with all her ’green’ systems and input. Plus we are getting an electric car charging point installed soon! Thanks again Stewart and see you next year too I hope ’ ’ - Sue

Lots of little gems hidden in the Norfolk countryside as well as the better known ones like the Vicarage Gardens, Blickling, Felbrigg, Sheringham Park etc. Add to that the villages and small towns, safe, sandy beaches, quiet countryside and easy access to the city of Norwich and you know why it is such a popular place to holiday with children and dogs! “I always knew pigs had good taste in interior design!”

The Old Piggery is a wonderfully successful blend of tradition and modernity.

Lovely character features combine with modern conveniences and the decor and furnishings are a very high standard. The overall result is a lovely comfortable environment.

The Old Piggery offers amenities to occupy visitors during their stay, but the owners also seem to have thought about what gets left behind when you pack for your holiday, so you find things like spare dog leads and dog blankets too.

The cottage caters extremely well for four-legged occupants - there is a secure garden and easy clean floors throughout.

The welcome pack was the most generous I have experienced and quite delicious!

Many holiday rentals advertise themselves as dog-friendly but the Old Piggery really and truly means it. Fabulous.

Summary:

“Utterly dog-friendly cottage in tranquil countryside”

This property is particularly suited to people taking dogs on holiday. The garden is completely safe and as it is entirely concrete, there are no muddy paws to worry about. Being on one level and paved throughout is also excellent for dogs.

The beaches are very accessible and very dog-friendly. The location is utterly peaceful. It just felt like home as soon as we got there. Very little traffic and no farming noise at the time we went.

Specifically Recommend:

The Star at Lessingham was very dog-friendly and served superb food.

Local Gems:

All of the beaches nearby are lovely.

Norwich is well worth a visit, in particular Macarons and more, owned by Tim Kinnaird, a runner up in Masterchef.

En Route:

Birchanger services couldn’t be faulted.

Summary:

“Perfect dog-friendly cottage”

The cottage was perfect, very dog-friendly and very homely. Had everything you needed and lovely welcome goodies for us and the dogs.

The location was great, very peaceful with plenty of walks straight from the cottage. The cottage is suitable for everyone as all on one level and the garden is enclosed, which is great for dogs and children.

Plenty of information provided on the local area and surrounding areas. No negative points at all!

Specifically Recommend:

Very dog-friendly, great local walks and dog-friendly beaches

Local Gems:

Sea Palling Beach

’’So pleased your enjoyed your stay at the Piggery Tracy and thank you for taking time to write a review.

The Piggery was the one we started off with and is very popular with a repeat booking rate of something like 70 per cent! We love having guests to stay there who like it as much as we do. It does seem to have a very relaxing affect on both people and dogs so I am glad you were able to enjoy its charms’’ - Sue

Summary:

“I’d go again anytime”

The Piggery is a gorgeous cottage in the heart of rural Norfolk. The cottage itself is incredibly comfortable and well equipped. You feel at home as soon as you walk through the door.

There are quiet walks straight from the door and the beach is only 5 minutes away in the car. A truly people- and dog-friendly holiday.

I’d happily recommend East Ruston Cottages to anyone.

Specifically Recommend:

Go for lovely long walks - the silence reinvigorates.

Local Gems:

The Star, Lessingham.

The local beaches.

Owner’s Reply:

’’Gini, thank you very much for your review. I am delighted you had such a relaxing time here. It is not until I go to other parts of the country that I realise how quiet and peaceful it is here in our little corner of Norfolk. What with the country walks, woodland and all those quiet sandy beaches we are very lucky. Really pleased you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your recommendations. Hope to see you here again’’ - Sue

Summary:

“An absolute must for everyone to experience The Old Piggery and North Norfolk”

Another visit to the fantastic Old Piggery. This holiday let is a gem for anyone who visits. It is in a beautiful spot with great views. As the owners know, we lived just around the corner many years ago and know the location really well.

The nice surprise this time was local cider and cake but the dog treats always go down well.

The Old Piggery is just a homely and relaxing place where you can just unwind and enjoy the beautiful Norfolk skies and scenery.

It is suitable for everyone and meets all your needs.

Specifically Recommend:

The walk around Blickling Hall near Aylsham.

The walk from Overstrand along the beach to Cromer then back along the top.

Walks around North and Southrepps.

Everywhere really - just so much to do.

Local Gems:

The food @ the Nelsons Head was good (Horsey)

Sea Palling beach.

Winerton beach.

Burnham Market for a bit of retail therapy.

Moulton St Mary garden centre and cafe.

En Route:

We stopped en route at Castle Rising for coffee and short dog walk, and Hunstanton for lunch and beach walk.
