Summary:

“A lovely break away”

Very comfortable - exactly what we were expecting due to the good photos on the website.

The garden was beautiful, and the kitchen also. It was the perfect size for a couple like us wanting a break in The Lakes.

The directions, welcome pack and instructions were brilliant. Everything was well thought out and informative. The biscuits and bottle of wine on arrival were a nice surprise and were enjoyed while we were there.

Overall, a lovely break away - good value and would definitely recommend to friends.

Specifically Recommend:

The kitchen-dining area was great.

The location of the cottage

Be Aware:

Just one very minor thing - after a long walk, the sofa in the living room wasn’t quite as comfortable as it could have been.

“This is a gem”

Absolutely superb. Very well equipped. Perfectly situated for either the coast or the Lake District.

Lovely little garden, ideal for sitting out in for morning coffee or sun-downers.

Will definitely return.

Specifically Recommend:

Quality cottage, ideally situated

Be Aware:

Only quibble would be that the double bed was a little on the low side.

Local Gems:

Promenade at Maryport

Pub in Dovenby - excellent food, very large portions

Summary:

“Tasteful attention to every detail inside the cottage”

Nicer than the picture of the outside on the website!

Immaculately clean and fitted with impeccable taste by owner.

Large, luxurious kitchen, really the hub of the cottage and looking on to a beautifully kept garden.

Flat screen TV-DVD player-Freeview in small sitting room.

Quiet village.

Specifically Recommend:

Quiet, rural location yet very convenient for shops (e.g. in nearby Cockermouth, 4 miles).

Ideal for Western Lakes (particularly enjoyed Wasdale and Bassenthwaite) and well away from Lake District traffic queues.

Very well equipped with maps and local information.

Be Aware:

Any chance of a Wi-Fi connection

Local Gems:

Mirehouse and St Begas Church on Bassenthwaite Lake - both a real delight.

Summary:

“A really good break”

A very comfortable mid-terraced cottage in the quiet village of Tallentire, only a few miles from the fascinating town of Cockermouth, and only 15 miles or so from the popular town of Keswick.

Was neater and more modern than expected.

Owners provided a lot of extras such as tea, wine, biscuits, bath foam and shower gel.

Specifically Recommend:

Very comfortable place.

Easy to relax.

Log burner a bonus.

Be Aware:

No village shop.

Local Gems:

Kings Church meeting in Cockermouth School - lively and very friendly.

Horse & Farrier at Threlkeld - really good food and friendly service.

Summary:

“Pleasant and relaxing”

A comfortable cottage in a friendly village, away from the crowds and good to relax in.

It was exactly as expected and described, well kept and welcoming.

Though next to a pub, no noise whatsoever!

Most suitable if you prefer the quieter, more rugged part of the Lake District.

Specifically Recommend:

It has a lovely spacey kitchen-dining room. Good attention to detail eg washing powder and kitchen roll provided

Be Aware:

It is in a fairly quiet area, bring boots if you like to hike!

Would have rated kitchen as 5 star, but an extra pan would have been nice

Local Gems:

Sadly too much rain to venture off the beaten track, but plenty to do in the immediate area

Summary:

“It was a peaceful break in a lovely cottage”

The cottage was very well presented and the decoration was to a very high standard. It felt like someone’s home that I was sharing for my stay.

The little touches around the cottage such as books, ornaments, even down to boxes of tissues made it feel much more like a home from home and not just a holiday let.

Although this is an old stone cottage, it has had the kitchen and bathroom updated to a very high standard, so there is no compromise on modern conveniences.

The garden is a pretty place to sit out in and relax, with the small lawn and lovely flowers and shrubs.

Specifically Recommend:

The kitchen and bathroom, and the whole peaceful atmosphere of the cottage.

When I arrived there were welcome gifts of flowers, wine, tea, milk and cookies, which I felt made the stay more personal.

Be Aware:

The stairs are particularly steep, and need careful navigation, especially when coming downstairs.

Summary:

“Beautiful cottage set in a scenic location. An ideal base for exploring the western Lakes”

Accommodation was comfortable. Cosy living room, large dining room-kitchen. Plenty of character but with all modern appliances.

Typical country cottage in lovely peaceful surroundings in a small village. Scenic location, car recommended.

Excellent facilities and well maintained. Everything had been thought of. Perfect holiday, will definitely go back to Bush Cottage and would highly recommend to others.

Specifically Recommend:

Personal touches - including hot cross buns and wine - make you feel really welcome.

Be Aware:

Steep stairs inside may be unsuitable for elderly, disabled or young children.

Summary:

“Absolutely superb cottage. Friends and I had a very relaxing week in this homely snug cottage where we celebrated Hogmanay and went home relaxed and ready for 2009!”

Bush Cottage provided a warm, cosy and welcoming base in the beautiful village of Tallentire. We used this as a base for walking and for travel into Keswick, Cockermouth Sulloth and the Lakes.

The Cottage was a real home-from-home..... every detail had been thought about from a holidaymaker’s perspective and everything we required from a bottle opener to matches to dishwasher and microwave was included.

The Cottage and its surroundings are peaceful, tranquil, warm and homely!

Be Aware:

Do not park in front of the neighbouring cottage.

Local Gems:

Stunning scenery all around this area

Particularly loved Keswick for its Pencil Museum, its range of shops and its lovely traditional pubs!

En Route:

Travelled from Edinburgh, stopped off at Gretna Outlet Village along the way

Owner’s Reply:

The neighbours are usually very tolerant, but there is normally parking available in front of Bush Cottage!
