“A very relaxing break in a pretty and comfortable home-from-home”
The cottage was roomier than we expected and even prettier than the photos suggested. The welcome pack far exceeded our expectations - considerably more than the standard tea, coffee, bread and milk! Piles of fluffy white towels in the bathroom and soft comfortable bathrobes. The kitchen was very well equipped, a home from home
The cottage is in a peaceful location along a narrow road (with some passing places for oncoming traffic) and was ideally placed for our walks in the hills, with lots of local footpaths and access to Offas Dyke path.
The local pub was a 3-4 minute stroll away and served good evening meals, with another pub-restaurant a further 6-8 minutes’ walk away. The lovely town of Ruthin is only a 5 minute drive and well worth a visit.
The view over the valley from Offas Dyke path at the top of the hill - fantastic even on a cold and windy day in May.
Trying the jigsaw puzzle on the dining table in the sunroom on a wet afternoon, with a glass of wine and Smooth Radio.
Only that the road leading to the village and the cottage is quite narrow and has lots of bends so look out for oncoming traffic.
Local Gems:Annie’s in Ruthin for a great lunch.
Dibley’s Nursery for a tour of the glasshouses and lovely Streptocarpus plants - they survived the journey home in the boot of the car.

“I couldn’t have found a better place to stay for my first visit to this part of the world”
The cottage is attached to the owners’ home but is not overlooked, and the delightful patio is well screened, offering privacy - and marvellous views.
The situation is lovely - at the foot of the Clwydian range, with the highest point, Moel Famau, within view. There are lots of excellent walks from the doorstep up onto the hills.
The road is very quiet indeed. Adjoining the cottage are fields - full of sheep and lambs in the Spring - a charming sight to enjoy over a leisurely breakfast on the patio.
The 5 star accommodation comprises two bedrooms with kingsize beds (with dressing gowns and toiletries etc provided), including a four poster. There is an additional single bed in the upstairs double.
The other double is downstairs (with bathroom attached, as with the upstairs bedroom). The other rooms include a large kitchen, very comfortable lounge and dining room with doors leading to the patio.
The cottage was full of lovely flowers, some delightfully fragrant, when I visited. (The owners maintain a beautiful garden.) As well as the usual tea, coffee and milk (provided by many cottages) I found cake, wine, fruit, croissants etc and all the ingredients for a full English breakfast! Most welcome, no doubt, by visitors from overseas who may have arrived without time to shop for groceries.
Wonderful location is so peaceful, ideal for re-charging the batteries, whether just by relaxing at the cottage or enjoying long walks over the hills.
A wealth of information is provided by the owners - brochures, guide books etc.
Those who want to walk should bring the appropriate OS map, however. These can be bought at the Loggerheads Country Park Visitor Centre, a c.15 minute drive away (and well worth a visit).
The attention to detail is exemplary - as many guests have remarked in the Visitors Book and thank-you cards. The only pity is the all too small space in the Visitors’ Book for comments - which is why, I suspect, so many guests leave cards, ie in order to give all the praise they wish!
Loggerheads Country Park Visitor Centre well worth a visit. Also has a good caf.
En Route:Stopped for a couple of nights in Oxfordshire on the way up (at Banbury Hill Farm, Charlbury - much to be recommended - Self-catering, B&B and Caravan & Camping Site.) Drove all the way back - to home Sussex - in one go on return.
Owner’s Reply:The caf Fiona refers to is the Caffi Florence
