“Superb cottage in idyllic village setting”
A quaint, cosy and historic cottage in an idyllic village setting with the characterful village pub just yards across the green and terrific walks from the door.
Extremely well appointed and comfortably furnished, with a warm personal welcome and check-out. Comprehensively equipped including Wi-Fi. The only sound we heard were sheep.
The village shop, staffed by volunteers, was open on Sunday. Easy walk to Tideswell, which is equally beguiling.
Quaint and cosy cottage.
Village pub and menu.
Scenic walks from the door to local dales, former mills, nature reserves and river Wye.

“A lovely cottage in a beautiful Peak District village”
The cottage is in a lovely quiet location overlooking Litton village green. It has real character and we found it spotlessly clean, warm, comfortable and equipped to a very high standard.
The welcome basket of local goodies was a very nice touch. The owners, Jill and Simon Wills, are really welcoming and friendly, and very helpful with local information and advice.
The village has a well-equipped community shop a stone’s throw away from the cottage and there is a range of good shops in nearby Tideswell (a few minutes by car).
The cottage definitely merits its 5 star status and we would have no hesitation in highly recommending it.
Just enjoy the beautiful countryside and relax!
Local Gems:Litton itself is a beautiful village and in an excellent location for walking, cycling, and visiting all sorts of Peak District sites.
We particularly enjoyed hiring bikes and cycling along the Monsal Trail one afternoon.
The Red Lion pub just across the green serves very good food and beer.

“A lovely week away in the Peak District in a super cottage”
A lovely old semi-detached cottage but beautifully renovated with all mod cons. Very conveniently situated for all the local sights and walking from the door.
A lovely welcome pack of bread, milk, tea, coffee and sparkling wine and chocolates in the fridge. Fresh flowers in the living room and main bedroom.
We have self-catered for many years and this cottage was absolutely spotless.
It is an old property so stairs and low doors are part of the appeal.
Local Gems:Litton itself is charming and nearby Tideswell (within easy walking distance) is not only a lovely place to visit but lovely for food shopping.
Chatsworth farm shop is a must-visit place.

“A wonderful relaxing end to a 6 week overseas vacation”
It was very cosy, well equipped and with a lot of helpful information for walks and sightseeing. We found it very central for touring the area.
Simon was very helpful, especially in helping us get back to Heathrow safely and without too much hassle on the motorways
The pub located just over the village square - great food and atmosphere with very friendly staff.

Tideswell Church
The Derwent river reservoirs drive. Would have loved to have time to hire a bike to cycle around the reservoirs

“Relaxing and leaving us wanting to come back again soon ”
Just returned from a short break in a lovely cottage.
It exceeded our expectations in almost every way.
The personal welcome and all the information Simon provided was excellent.
We would love to go back in another season.
Most definitely the Litton village shop. Such friendly people and lovely local produce.
The walk over the high road to Tideswell is quite special.
The bathroom radiator can be extremely hot . Be careful when stretching to open the little bathroom window or simply turn down the thermostat.
Local Gems:The Farm Shop in Bakewell for an amazing array of local foods.
The Gallery in Tideswell - friendly owner and good prices.

“A delightful cosy Christmas”
The accommodation was spotless, but also welcoming and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and we were supplied with all the essentials e.g. cooking oil and fresh coffee, milk and local jam. There were lovely Christmas decorations too.
We really enjoyed the warmth of the Aga, especially as outside there was snow everywhere. The view over the green to the sparkling lights on the Christmas tree and the village pub beyond, with all the trees and buildings outlined with snow, was perfect.
Walking is great too, and we were able to do all our walks from the village itself - didn’t need the car at all. The village shop is run by the community and was understandably closed for Christmas, but looks like a great resource.
The pub has lovely open fires and was open for food and mulled wine throughout the period. We particularly enjoyed the local feel, especially the carols round the tree on Christmas Eve and the brass band on Boxing Day.
Could Provide The owners went out of their way to make sure everything was spot on, and helped us load our car in the snow and ice when we left.
The welcome hamper (lovely Bakewell tart!) and the peace and quiet.
Be Aware:Nothing springs to mind, but perhaps a box with some grit for the next time it gets slippery might be useful.
Local Gems:If it snows, a walk to Peter Stone is a must.
En Route:We were travelling from North Yorkshire but as it was snowing and late, we didn’t stop anywhere

“Perfect place for a relaxing break amid beautiful countryside”
Candlelight Cottage was exceptionally clean and well presented. Very cosy and comfortable - just a nice place to be.
The kitchen and bathroom were both practical and up to the best modern standards without losing the ’cottagey’ charm. Beds were comfortable and the living room was cosy and warm.
So completely equipped we brought along a lot of stuff we didn’t need because it was all provided. So exceptionally clean we felt we were the first guests to ever stay there.
Litton is a pretty village with a decent pub just across the green. Wonderful walks and scenery in every direction from the cottage.
The owners were very helpful and seem to have thought of everything. It was better than described on the website - definitely a 5 star place.
Walking in Monsal Dale, Edale and Castleton.
Local Gems:We had a very nice meal at Felicinis in Bakewell. Although it’s a modern chain of restaurants, they serve very high quality food. Mostly though we stayed in and cooked in the kitchen.
En Route:We went home down the A515 to Ashbourne and it’s a very beautiful road to drive.

“Probably the best self catering we have stayed in”
It was described as having a starter pack but we were amazed at the quality of bread, cake, coffee (Instant Filter Coffee Bags - my favourite!), all the seasoning and basic items etc. you need to cook with were supplied
The village has its own small shop for shopping but the next village is only about I mile away and has excellent butchers-greengrocers as well as several other good shops
The owners were very helpful and came over before we left to see if anything was amiss
The lounge is large enough to have a three-seater, two-seater and armchair, all in leather, and the kitchen has a table and chairs
Local Gems:The Otter and Owl centre is very good for seeing the Otters, but the Owls were a disappointment!
Chatsworth House is amazing
The Cable ride in Matlock Bath is excellent, but be aware that you have to park in the station car park so put in four hours as there is a lot to do
From Wiltshire we crossed country and used the M1. Came off at J29, through the town centre and out the other side there is a farm which has a cafe attached and served the best Ploughmans I have eaten

“A lovely cottage in an ideal location, very relaxing and enjoyable”
We appreciated the detailed description of the property’s interior and the plentiful photos on the website, all of which fully lived up to expectations. It has been thoughtfully presented and lacks nothing.
It was our first visit to the Peak District and we found the scenery to be stunning. Candlelight Cottage, situated in a small village, is centrally located and therefore ideal for visiting all areas of the National Park.
The cottage is very attractive, cosy and has lots of character. Its proximity to a small general shop and traditional pub, which serves a good evening meal, are very convenient.
There are also lovely walks directly from the cottage door and a wealth of information has been provided by the owners about the local area and its attractions.
The cottage was spotlessly clean throughout, the kitchen very well equipped and the beds comfortable.
Local Gems:Too many to list, but The Barrel Inn at Bretton, provided a very good evening meal and it claims to be the highest pub in the National Park, therefore has lovely views.

“An ideal cottage and location in the heart of the Peaks”
The cottage was a home-from-home with everything we needed to hand and was lovely and clean. The building is charming with real character throughout.
The details on the website were very good and accurate in all but one detail....the bathroom was better than anticipated as it had just been totally refurbished, including a new shower.
We loved our stay here and would thoroughly recommend to friends - it felt like our home for the week.

Lovely village and friendly pub. Try the quiz night on Mondays and a good Sunday lunch at reasonable prices and a good welcoming village pub.
The basement stairs should not be attempted after consuming alcohol! These are a little steep but not really a problem.
Local Gems:The Red Lion opposite is very good, as is the Monsal Head Stable Restaurant for lunch.

“The best looked-after property we have stayed in to-date”
The website shows several pictures of the property and gives a good idea of its size, feel and location.
We love the area anyway and having previously stayed at Eyam we were keen to return to the locality. The village of Litton is lovely, with a local proper pub. The shop is delightful, selling ice creams and groceries.
The cottage itself is more than adequately equipped, immaculately clean and the welcome was sincere and much appreciated.
We have stayed several times in rural cottages and houses. We have never found one to be as clean, well-presented and welcoming. It was outstanding.
We definitely plan to return at some point in the future, if perhaps in a few years when our new arrival is quite a bit older.
I would have no hesitation to thoroughly recommend this property to anybody who would like a peaceful, comfortable retreat in one of the most attractive regions of the UK.
Location, village pub, well looked after cottage, close to Peak District attractions.
Local Gems:The Plague Village of Eyam is interesting.
The Miners’ Arms pub in Eyam serves a good evening meal.
PLEASE NOTE - As the stairs are fairly steep, we welcome children of 8 years of age and over.

“Fantastic - certainly a holiday we would like to repeat one day”
The website is very informative and shows the cottage as it really is. It also gives a lot of useful information about the area in general.
We were expecting something really lovely and this is what we found. Plus the added extra of the owners, Jill and Simon Wills, being so welcoming and friendly and providing us with plenty of information on the cottage, the village and surrounding area.
The cottage well deserves its five-star rating. Everything seemed to have been thought of, to make our stay as relaxing and comfortable as possible.
The cottage is in a great location on the edge of the green. Litton itself is a beautiful village with a good pub and a village shop. It is also on the bus route, so you don’t necessarily need a car. There is plenty of lovely walking from the door, plus many Peak District attractions within a short distance.
The accommodation itself is lovely - very comfortable, everything of a very high standard and spotlessly clean. The kitchen was especially well-equipped, with all the appliances and utensils you could possibly need.
The welcome basket of local goodies provided on our arrival was a very nice touch and very tasty! We also appreciated the range of local maps and guidebooks that were in the cottage.
The courtyard garden at the back of the cottage was a real sun-trap - great for sitting out.
Come here and relax. Everything has been thought of and you are staying in the heart of the most beautiful scenery.

We were travelling from near Sevenoaks in Kent, up to Litton in Derbyshire. We stopped for lunch at Belton House, a National Trust property near Grantham in Lincolnshire. We would certainly recommend their restaurant - tea-room for both adults and children (lovely grounds there too, if you want a bit of a wander).
