“A great base for touring the Peak District”
The Stables is a very well equipped property and an ideal base for exploring the Peak District. There are many attractions within a reasonable drive, too many to visit in one week.
The owners are very hospitable and happy to help with any query, but they leave you to get on with your holiday if that’s what you want. Our children really liked feeding the Alpacas with them.

The Stables is very clean and has everything that you would need for a holiday. We didn’t need to light the fire, but it would be lovely in Winter. It’s very peaceful, lovely views and some nice walks on the doorstep.
The cake on arrival was much appreciated. We liked it so much, we bought another one later in the week.
The feedback in the visitors’ book is very useful information regarding pubs etc.
Local Gems:Some favourite places were Dovedale, Chatsworth and Bakewell.
On a rainy day we went to a lead mine - the children liked it but it was a bit claustrophobic for me!
They enjoyed Gulliver’s Kingdom, but were definitely at the upper age range for this park.

“5 stars - one for each visit!”
Fifth consecutive stay here at Holestone Moor. Truly is our family’s ’boomerang holiday’. Given our 5 star rating, that makes it 1 per visit! Not quite.
We were warmly greeted when we arrived the first year, and the warmth from the hosts, Vicki & Steve, hasn’t faltered since. Even when were not actually staying...!
The list of things available for guests’ use is almost endless.... if Vicki could also supply a pair of shorts and a string vest for guests’ use then there wouldn’t be any need to pack at all!
Our first child was days after his first birthday when we first visited, he’s now 5 with his brother at 18 months. In the general locale we have years of life left in the annual visits, there is so much to do for all ages and most of it within 20 minutes (that’s the maximum drive we had anywhere first time here). So for us who want to avoid shopping centres like the plague, want somewhere quiet to stay, be outdoors as much as possible, then the general area is superb.
Then there’s the site itself, which reflects the surrounding area. Games Room with something for all ages, outdoor play area for young ones, plenty of exploring to be done in the woods, Nuzzle & Scratch’s cousins roaming around (parents of kids of a certain age will know who they are). Sometimes you wonder why you’d want to head out for the day. And again, as the boys get older there’s stuff here to grow with them.
And the hosts... friendly and attentive don’t come anywhere close to accurately describing them. Nothing, absolutely nothing, is too much trouble. Which is why it’s never too much trouble for us deciding on return visits.
Only one problem - that was having to light the log fire in July. If the weather can be guaranteed...
There are so many local places and attractions to visit that a week simply isn’t long enough.
Take recommendations from the visitors’ books, we haven’t had a disagreement with other visitors yet.
There are plenty of comments covering a wide spectrum of visitor types, so there will be recommendations in there for any party visiting.
Take recommendations from the visitors’ book. And if you need a pint to mull over the options, the Tavern at Tansley.
