Summary:

“Lovely and relaxing, with a very warm welcome”

Beautifully situated, just a stone’s throw from the Coast Path (which can be accessed by a path - for guests’ use only - through the owners’ estate). Lovely and quiet, with sea views from upstairs. Most relaxing place to stay. Cottage impeccable, big kitchen, three bedrooms and sitting room (with open fire). Night storage heaters at present, but the owners have plans to change that and upgrade the cottage. Though I’ve only stayed at this cottage, I have looked round all the other cottages (located nearby) - all most impressive.

The attention to detail is exemplary. The green ethos is highly admirable - as much as possible is reycyled, and all products used are environmentally friendly. Well done to South Hams District Council for providing a food waste collection service (as well as the other usual recyclable collections). Katherine Harding, who looks after the bookings, is extremely helpful, most efficient and ever-welcoming. A pleasure to deal with.

(NB As an 02 mobile phone user, Spring Cottage was the only cottage I could get a signal - convenient for me. With the other cottages it is probably necessary to go up the road a short distance.)

Specifically Recommend:

Everything, but especially the coast, and walking the Coast Path.

Lovely beaches at Mothecombe and Meadowsfoot an hour’s walk along the coast (or a short drive).

Also a good walk to Noss Mayo in the other direction.

Be Aware:

For those who come to walk the Coast Path, note that the ferries across the Yealm and Avon rivers only run from Easter to Autumn. There is no ferry across the Erme, which can only be crossed by wading it up to one hour either side of low tide. So it can be slightly tricky if you want to do a long day’s linear walk along the Coast Path when the ferries aren’t running. But there are lots of good alternative options.

The cottage is being refurbished Winter 2011-12 and the replacement of the night storage heaters will no doubt be a good improvement (though the cottage is fine as it is!)

Local Gems:

Old, partly roofless church at Stoke (from the Coast Path go down through caravan park) - atmospheric.
