Summary:

“A truly romantic and magically quaint, quirky thatched cottage in West Wales”

What a truly magical place, from the moment you lift the latch on the front door until you close it at the end of your stay PERFECT!!!

The crog loft 4 poster bedroom (up open steps) was really romantic and the firelight reflecting on the eaves was yummy.

This cottage was so unexpected even after seeing the pictures on site, when you get there it takes your breath away, It is quirky, quaint and cute but the Grade II listing was well restored and to form but yet all the mod cons like central heating, microwave, TV etc were all catered for.

A lovely DEEP submarine bath was great fun and the power shower was always piping hot. The bench in the garden saw a cheeky breakfast even in March!!!

Perfect cottage for romantic getaway.

Specifically Recommend:

The housekeeping lady, Eleri, is a gem - a spotlessly clean cottage even though there is a open fire.

Summary:

“A fabulous, relaxing, worry-free and wonderful break in one of the most beautiful properties you could wish for”

The Under The Thatch website is excellent - easy to understand, clear instructions and great details but....
the pictures don’t (couldn’t) prepare you for the romantic reality of the cottage - it is a stunning property and one to which we’ll definitely be returning.

Trod Rhiw Fallen is delightful. In a quiet village location, the only noise we heard was birdsong and the very occasional forestry noise from the nearby woods.

The crog loft is a simply wonderful place to spend an idle night under the eaves. Light the fire and lie back in bed watching the flames cast dancing shadows onto the roofbeams.

A well-equipped kitchen contains ample supplies of cutlery and crockery and the environmentally-conscious will be glad to know that there are recycling bins for plastic, cardboard and glass - and a compost bin for your peelings and teabags.

The shower - ha ha ha! I spent my first plunge giggling like a loon! It’s fantastic - hot and powerful and really refreshing. I didn’t get the chance to have a bath but my wife assures me it was lovely!

This cottage is an absolutely excellent base from which to explore the stunning Cardiganshire countryside and coast. Places to go....
Mynt is well worth a visit - and don’t forget to look at the gorgeous little chapel on the clifftops. The day we visited a wedding was being held so we couldn’t go inside but, stunning views, overflown by red kites and lazily drifting gulls, what a wedding venue!

Aberaeron is lovely too, with beautiful old buildings and interesting little shops. Don’t forget to fit in a visit to the fabulous Hive restaurant. Right on the quay, it has food (lots of fish) to die for and I’m told that their honey ice cream is legendary amongst aficionados - we were too full to try.

Specifically Recommend:

Have a shower. Light a fire. Eat a home-cooked breakfast on a sunny morning in the lovely kitchen.

Visit Mynt and Aberaeron.

Oh. and if, as I did, you should slip on the one remaining patch of ice in Wales whilst down at Cymtyddu beach, fall down and break your wrist in six painful places, I can thoroughly recommend the care provided by the staff of Carmarthen hospital! Ouch!

Be Aware:

Ice - as above! It’s testament to the comfort of the cottage, the glory of the Welsh countryside and the kindness of the Welsh people that, despite my mishap, I still had a fantastic stay.

Go, you won’t regret it!
