Pretty thatch cottage sleeping four, (max two adults) with own hot tub in cabin and views over the Aeron valley. Built at the end of the 18th century but well insulated and with modern interior.
Croglofft double bedroom on mezzanine, and leather sofabed in lounge to sleep additional two. Modern kitchen with full size cooker, fridge and microwave. Small shower room and toilet.
Small enclosed front garden with parking to front. Decking patio area and picnic bench.
1.5 miles along footpath to National Trust estate. Shops, takeaways, fish & chips 10 minutes walk. Cardigan 12 miles for shops, and floating Indian restaurant!

“Exceeded all expectations as the most memorable, relaxing and cultural experience of Wales”
It’s not often that strategic marketing fails to oversell both the product and experience but with Ty Rownd you would truly have to experience it to understand its magic - a getaway like no other. When we arrived, the exterior looked exactly like the pictures but only when you walk in can you marvel at what it offers.
It appears so small but with two adults and two dogs we never felt cramped as it’s so expertly designed. We thought we ’d remembered everything but there ’s always items you kick yourself for not bringing but it was all thought of by the considerate owners in advance - tea towels, coat hangers, handwash, washing up liquid etc. (all good brands).
As the only double bedroom is a mezzanine (balcony), unless you take kids or friends you’re happy to semi-share your sleeping space with (sofa bed in the lounge) then it’s not completely private. The outside is completely fenced in so our dogs were safe and we enjoyed eating outside at the picnic table they provide.
As two busy professionals, we found the ideal retreat experience we were looking for - the owners should feel very proud about the meticulous detail they obviously strive to provide ensuring such a wonderful experience.
If you want a self-catering break in a beautiful location where everything’s on your doorstep yet you can also feel a million miles away, Ty Rownd ticks every box.
Local Gems:Just a few minutes away we came across Llanerchaeron National Trust which was a perfect place for a walk in the woods with our dogs and then a relaxing afternoon tea.
The centre of Aberaeron was a typical quaint village with all the shops (and takeaways) you need. Slightly further afar was New Quay which again was a lovely representation of the coastline and exactly what we’d hoped for.
On the way we had to take a moderate detour and visit Snowdon and although it was too late in the day to experience the railway, it was well worth the visit.
On the way home we found a beautiful woodland walk with waterfalls and outstanding views where the dogs could run off the lead safely. We felt miles away from anywhere but the 1.5 mile walk was well sign-posted and I just wish I could remember its name but you’ll find it on the A474 heading north to Dolgellau.

“We didn’t want to leave!!”
The description on the UTT website was spot-on but the photos did not do it justice. It was such a charming property to stay at, beautiful and with so much character
The cottage was fully equipped with all that we needed. It was cosy and even in warm weather it remained cool indoors.
The hot tub made the break away even more enjoyable. The enclosed garden was great as we have two dogs so it was nice to know they were safe.
There is not one thing that I could think of that had not been provided - it was a perfect place to spend our honeymoon.
Make sure you make full use of the hot tub. After being out all day, walking and exploring the local area, it was a great way to unwind.
Be Aware:The height restriction in the bedroom area. My husband and I are both quite tall but for anyone more than 6 ft the loft space could be an issue
Local Gems:Try the local bakery and butchers in the town- lovely produce.

“The relaxing break we had hoped for and more than got!”
As there are accurate pictures on the UTT website, it was most definitely as described..... but a lot more homely than we thought it would be.
The accommodation is nice and open plan and the stairs are easy to navigate. The bathroom has a good layout and the shower is good. The wood burner is easy to use and the furniture is in keeping with the cottage. The owners leave out Welsh cakes which were yum, and milk, tea and coffee.
It is in a quiet location off the road and is within easy walking distance to the town, which has a good range of shops. Short car drives can take you to a variety of walks and views.
The owners were most attentive. We had a slight problem with a bathroom tap and they came to fix it that day and brought us a bottle of wine for our inconvenience.
Lastly, the cottage has a hot tub which was fantastic to experience looking out over the field, or after a long day out.
The hot tub is a must.
The location and the cottage itself - nothing negative to write as it’s all very delightful.
There are already bath robes provided to use for the hot tub so no need to take your own, as we did.

“A cosy little cottage that warmed our hearts, as well as our toes”
Very accurately described, letting us know what we needed to take, what was included, and fantastic pictures. The overall beauty of it, the design and layout of the thatch cottage made us want to move to the country! The detail and dedication that the owners strive for is really evident.
I cannot boast enough. I will give you an idea from start to finish. Arrived a little early at Aberaeron, so went for a coffee in the colourful town centre. Locals so friendly and welcoming, really happy town!
Arrived at cottage at around 3pm. The directions were accurate and easy to follow and we found the cottage straight away. Lots of room for at least 3 cars in the drive if you are having visitors. Set away from the road down a quiet lane, not one car drove past.
The cottage had beautiful high ceilings, all wooden beams and still very light. We did not have to turn the lights on until late evening. The finish of the property was exquisite, immaculately clean and stocked with everything that you would need.
everything from the vast visitor information and leaflets, to the personalised bathrobes and welcoming tea and Welsh cakes, made us so comfortable we struggled to pack our bags. We cannot praise them enough.
Reading through the two visitors’ books was a pleasure, and it was evident the owners really took notice of what people thought. Everything from the already set-up fire, to the warm hot tub and the fluffy bathrobes to go with it. It was a pleasure and we struggled to leave. When we did we went to Aberystwyth, a bit wet and windy but beautiful sea front. We ate in the highly rated Harbour Master, which seemed to be mentioned in every review. Absolutely phenomenal food, wonderful area and flawless service.
The Harbour Master!! The bar food gives you a lot more choice and the starters are good enough to be a main.
Definitely recommend a walk down to NewQuay, it’s not far.
If you are looking for a cute, well-run cafe with home-made produce, go to Naturally Scrumptious in Aberaeron centre. Dedicated team of staff, and you have to try the Chocolate Flake Tea.
We forgot to take cooking oil and butter, so make a good list of what you need to take with you. We took lots of blankets as we were worried we would be cold. They stayed in the car, the cottage was cosy all night.
Also if you need more firewood (we had our wood burner on for most of the night), the Murco garage that is on the way out of Aberaeron has large packs of fire wood for just GBP 3.50!
Harbour Master! Beautiful cobalt blue building right on the harbour of Aberaeron. Lovely evening meals and desserts are devine! Little expensive but worth it.
Naturally Scrumptious! Bright purple deli-cafe for a healthy snack and to pick up some gourmet produce.
The Aberaeron Craft Centre was very good, some of the most beautiful gifts sold by the most welcoming, helpful people
We travelled from Swansea and it took us about two hours. We did take a little detour to Cardigan. Cenarth Falls, which we have visited before, is so beautiful, and fantastic for walking. Lots of family-friendly surrounding pubs there too. We did drive through Lampeter on the way back but didn’t stop as not much there.

“This is my second time to Ty Rownd and both occassions left me breathless and relaxed”
Ty Rownd is a beautiful thatched cottage secluded from the road with the beauty of surrounding trees and wildlife. A lovely front garden with picnic table for dining out or just relaxing with a good book in the lovely weather.
There is now a hot tub, which I wasn’t sure of at first, but it is lovely sitting relaxing in the water looking through the tree branches at the sky with the sun dappling on the water.
A great retreat to unwind and relax with the village close by if you fancy a bit of life. It is a lovely homely, peaceful property.... a lovely relief to the normal hustle and bustle of life
Ty Rownd is central to some lovely areas to visit - local villages, beaches, general sightseeing etc, whatever your fancy.
En Route:I travelled from London, stopped just before the Severn Bridge on the M4 for tea at the Leigh Delamare Services, I then stopped at the Co-op in Lampeter (approx 20-30 mins from Ty Rownd) to get essentials. Although the owners do provide tea, milk, coffee, sugar and this time round Welsh tea cakes for a snack.

“Charming cottage in a beautiful part of the world that still isn’t like Cornwall...”
Ty Rownd is a tiny thatched cottage with chocolate-box charm - even more charming than the UTT photographs.
You get milk, coffee, tea and Welsh cakes on arrival, a basket full of logs & the wood-burning stove is already set. The small bathroom is irrelevant with a hot tub in a Wendy house in the garden!
Aberareon is a pretty town......great food at The Harbourmaster, and fish & chips, delis and a good butcher. The walking all around here is stunning.
It’s wonderful.
