“First time holiday to Filey which we loved and will return”

This lovely place was tucked away in a quiet side street. We often look for sea-front accommodation but found that this little place, filled with everythig we needed, more than made up for a lack of sea view.

We had everything we needed and our 13 year old granddaughter had enough to keep her entertained.

Summary:

“Modern, clean and quiet apartment in centre, close to everything you would want”

The loft is a modern apartment that sleeps up to four people consisting of a double bed upstairs and two singles downstairs.

It is situated on a small street in the centre of town, close to restaurants, public houses and shops, with a short walk to the seafront. There is no traffic noise and is ideal for a quiet break or holiday.

We have been coming to Filey for over 50 years and the resort has hardly changed and is ideal for families and couples who want a relaxing getaway or a seaside holiday.

There is good walking with both the Cleveland Way and Wold Way walks ending in Filey on the cliff top with stunning views over the bay.

Specifically Recommend:

Close to both train and bus stations.

Apartment has all modern facilities from Wi-Fi to television.

It’s the little touches that the owner provides that makes it special

Be Aware:

Living quarters are up stairs.

Parking is only suitable for a smallish car

Local Gems:

Dickie Bees Fish & Chips are a must and so is Inghams Fish restaurant. The Chinese take-away give excellent value and food, and open till late, unlike restaurants.

Some very nice cliff top walks with beautiful scenery.

En Route:

Did not stop on this occasion but Knaresborough, York and Pickering are all close and well worth a visit if en-route.

Summary:

“The hidden gem of Filey”

We stayed at The Loft in the hottest week of September and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The accommodation was just like home-from-home and had everything you could have wished for. It was superb. The owner, Matt, was very nice and helpful and so was his Mum.

We had never been to Filey before and did not know what to expect..... we have to say it was one of the best places we have ever been for a holiday. It is a lovely, unspoilt place. Especially when you go up to Filey Brigg and stand on top of the cliffs. You have the most amazing views.

The Loft is in the ideal location with the shops just a few minutes’ walk away and the beach about 5-10 minutes. We visited The Lighthouse coffeee shop a few times and they make a lovely mocha and also the Cooplands Bakery do excellent rolls for your lunch. It has to be said that Filey has the best fish & chips too!

There is so much to see and do around Filey. The Park Rose Bird of Prey Centre is well worth a visit just to see the owls in flight. My partner even had the chance of helping fly one and had one come and sit on his arm. Also, York is only an hour’s drive away and well worth a day trip out. York Minster was absolutely stunning.

We would recommend The Loft to everyone and would love to stay again.

Summary:

“The best place to stay in Filey”

The loft is located in the main town centre on a quiet side street. There is secure parking and the loft itself is furnished and fitted to a very high and syylish standard with multiple TVs, Blu-ray player, Wii, DVDs, games etc.

The accommodation lacks for nothing and both Matt (the owner) and Judy are very helpful. When you stay there it becomes pretty obvious why it has won so many awards. This was our second visit and we would not hesitate to stay there again.

Filey is a great little seaside town with a few shops, cafes and plenty of pubs. It has a very long beach that extends beyond Hunmamby in one direction and Cayton Bay in the other. It is close to other places like Scarborough, Bridlington and Whitby. Unlike Scarborough and Bridligton, Filey is comparatively quiet eg with just one gaming arcade and rock shop in the town.

The recent TV series ’Sugar Town’ was filmed almost exclusively in Filey, and Michael Portillo visited the town and described it as ’genteel’ in one of his railway journey programmes.

Great views of the coast can be enjoyed from the Crescent Gardens and there is a golf club, bowling club (flat green), park with recreational lake, nature reserve etc. Also see the Coble Landing (named after the coble fishing boats that are famous in this area).

“Exemplary holiday accommodation in Filey at an affordable price”

The accommodation was of an exemplary standard - the owner has thought of every tiny detail, even down to a ’Welcome Pack’ including tea, coffee, sugar, milk and biscuits.

I tried very hard to find some small fault, but was unable to do so.

This is the perfect holiday accommodation - you literally need turn up with nothing more than your clothing and either food, or money to buy it.

Highly recommended.

We would definitely stay again.

“Very good”

Very clean property, close to beach and shops.

For children, the beach is wonderful. For adults, shops etc are very close to the flat.

I personally would have preferred more potted plants in the garden to soften the bricks and mortar. This, with other horticultural items would transform the appearance of the flat entrance. Flowers and plants would just make this flat perfect (I speak as a gardener (this is NOT a criticism!)

Thanks Matt & Matt’s Mum - on the whole it was excellent and a cut above most flats.

The accommodation is perfect. It is modern and stylish with a wealth of gadgets, games and toys.

“Fantastic, relaxing short break”

The accommodation was fantastic - I’d go as far as to say that the photos on the website do not actually do it justice!!

The location is very central - and still very peaceful - and the owner of the accommodation has everything covered - entertainment provided includes Blu-ray, Wii, Sky TV, and all the utensils and little touches in the kitchen which although small can sometimes hinder a self catering break if lacking.

The owner was also very welcoming and forthcoming with information about the local area places to eat etc! This all meant that this break was just as we had hoped... relaxing!!

“Thoroughly enjoyed”

We know Filey quite well and The Loft was our first time in the very old centre of Filey - we loved it - and The Loft. We had the ’Virtual Tour’ on line, and it was just as nice in reality!

We love to relax, walk a bit etc, went off to Scarborough, Bridlington on the bus. We also fell in love with Matt’s TV!

We have our favourite shops and cooking up a meal was no bother in The Loft. Worked out the cooker etc. and even managed to put the clocks on an hour for ’Summertime’!

Specifically Recommend:

Central - near shops, beach, bus and rail.
All you needed and more.
The Loft has all the ’gizmos’!

Be Aware:

There is parking for the ’average’ sized car - but not for anything too large!!

We were met by Matt - he guided us in with the car and showed us round. Excellent

Local Gems:

We didn’t go that far this time, but the Museum is on our list for next time. Closed in March but opens Easter to October.

“5 star!”

The accommodation was well presented and central to Filey town centre, but quiet. Easy to find, tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Filey Town Centre.

The accommodation itself was very comfortable and had every thing you may or may not need. In the fridge on arrival there was a bottle of water and milk, also tea, coffee and biscuits - this was a simple, but very welcome gesture.

As we go to Filey every February we will most certainly book with Matt again - my husband and I got a very warm, personal and happy reception from Matt Roddison.

Specifically Recommend:

Very well situated, plenty to do indoors for children and adults if the weather is poor.

Quiet location.

Televisions in each room. DVD and game collection very good.

Also, landlord very flexible with available nights.

The accommodation was perfectly described and lived up to the advert - wonderful in every way.

We always enjoy our stay at The Loft - it has everything you need, it is comfortable and child-friendly and there are some lovely walks in and around Filey.

Specifically Recommend:

I would recommend relaxing in comfortable surroundings, to try both Italian restaurants, and the Star public house.

Be Aware:

I really don’t think there is anything else the owner could have done to make our stay more comfortable, think everything is just right, that’s why we keep going back.

Local Gems:

The Star pub
Both Italian restaurants
Cobble Landing for the fishing.

Although the loft doesn’t have a sea view, the layout and contemporary styling makes up for it.

Matt is very welcoming and goes out of his way to ensure a comfortable stay.

The loft is located within walking distance of all amenities and the beach.

As advertised, there is parking for a small or medium sized car at the rear of The Loft. We always, when possible, save a semi off-street parking place for our guests on Providence Place, close by, and then they have a choice where they would like to park

“Perfect”

On arrival (as parking is a problem) the owners had saved us a space close by. We were greeted by a tour and explanation of where everything was and how it worked. We had teas, coffees, biscuits and milk was in the fridge, which was a nice touch.

It is in the heart of Filey but on a quiet street (apart from the seagulls!). We loved the TV in every room, and wireless internet (I was able to do some surfing on laptop to find out about local attractions - we went to York and Harrogate).

Very comfortable, safe, close to everything. Accommodation clean and tidy - we loved staying there and will go back

Specifically Recommend:

Quiet location but close to everything.
Kids loved having their own en-suite, TV, iPod doc and wireless internet. All mod cons you need.

Be Aware:

No parking (NB - Please see Owner’s Reply)

Local Gems:

The beach is brilliant

En Route:

We travelled from Bristol and the Rother Valley Country Park is halfway - great to walk around, stretch legs, get fresh air, eat etc

Located right in the centre of Filey, so no sea view, but easy access to the shops and Glen Gardens (more important than view). Enclosed rear yard with seating provided to enable one to sit outside comfortably.

Furnishings very good, comfortable, modern furniture and equipment. Sky Freeview to all televisions, and radio-cd player in all rooms. Extremely good accommodation, cleaner and better equipped than anywhere previously visited. Better than most 4 star hotels I’ve stayed in.

“Very nice ”

The accommodation is centrally located in Filey, giving easy access to the shops. It is also very handy for the beach and The Brigg.

There isn’t a view from the accommodation but because it is so near the centre it means easy access to the shops, whereas a beach view would mean a steep climb to the town.

The accommodation is very well furnished and the cleanest and best I have ever stayed in - excellent!

Specifically Recommend:

Enclosed yard very good for storing mobility scooters.
Very comfortable seating and beds.

Be Aware:

Lounge is up a short flight of stairs

Local Gems:

The cafe in the park (Glen Gardens) is excellent for a simple meal and drink.

The accommodation was superb.

Local Gems:
