“Poppy’s First Holiday.........”

The Lodge was relaxing and very comfortable. We found the property a home-from-home. Our puppy, Poppy, 9 months old, settled in straight away.

We loved the welcome box, which was a lovely touch.

We would recommend this for dog owners and couples. It was quiet so if you are looking for a get away from the hub bub it’s perfect.

“Clean, comfortable, peaceful and extremely dog-friendly”

The Lodge exceeded our expectations in every way, peaceful relaxing extremely dog-friendly, lovely walks short and long, secure garden was a bonus which helped make it even more relaxing.

The Lodge was very clean in a lovely rural setting. We have stayed in many cottages that were dog-friendly but none were as clean and fresh as this one with a secure garden.

Beautiful flowers, well stocked kitchen, welcome basket, dog bed and bowls - it was all there for us to use.

Absolutely recommend dog lovers, couples, it is all set up for easy access too.

Peaceful and quiet holidays - not for entertainment seekers. You have to drive to the pub unless you are serious walkers!

Specifically Recommend:

Relaxing and fantastic for dogs

Be Aware:

If I have to find something to complain about - I had a problem with the blinds getting them down but I soon mastered them - but that was me being used to curtains! In any case no one could see in.

Local Gems:

Happisburgh beach, dogs are a bit restricted to beach access from 1st May to 1st October but they still have areas to go but not sure how busy it would be.

Summary:

“A good place for a retreat”

The Lodge looks exposed when you first see it but it doesn’t feel that way once you’re inside and it is very quiet. It is extremely well-equipped, comfortable, has plenty of storage space and is surprisingly roomy inside despite its small appearance.

The welcome pack was really good for man and beast and the flowers a nice touch which lasted all week. The garden is completely enclosed for dogs although mine went out the front and I wasn’t remotely concerned.

The heating is good once you work out how to use the thermostats but it takes a long time to cool down. Perfect for one or two people (no room to escape each other beyond that number) and their pets.

Specifically Recommend:

Cosiness despite the wooden exterior. Wheelchair-mobility-impaired accessible.

Be Aware:

I’d only change two things - the smoke alarm is directly over the toaster and too near the oven door when it is opened, and the TV is a bit too high on the wall.

“10 out of 10”

The Lodge is warm, comfortable and stylish. It is very well equipped and in a peaceful location. The owner, Jo, was very friendly and she and John (her husband) had left us a lovely Welcome Pack with a beautiful bunch of flowers.

We enjoyed the long beaches near East Ruston and saw 100plus seals one day at Horsey Gap. The garden at The Lodge is totally enclosed and this makes it easier for dog owners.

Highly recommended.

“Perfect for us and our family of dogs and we will be back!”

The Lodge is a perfect hideaway offering dog-friendly accommodation. It is clean, tidy, comfortable and well appointed.

The garden is fenced and kept our dogs in but those with dogs that have springs in their feet may find they could jump as it probably about 4ft high!

On arrival there was a welcome pack containing eggs, preserves, milk and a bag of handmade dog biscuits along with a vase of beautiful roses.

There is a lovely walk from the door along Weavers Way and countless walks easily reached by car.

Would thoroughly recommend The Lodge for anybody wanting a peaceful holiday including those with mobility issues.

“Fabulous dog friendly cottage in beautiful Norfolk.”

Lovely, well equipped, home-from-home, with an extremely comfortable bed and a safe, enclosed garden in a beautiful part of Norfolk. The welcome pack is great, even a beautiful bunch of flowers, which lasted all week.

The Lodge is all on one level which makes it very convenient (handy as we have a disabled dog) and is thoughtfully laid out.

Close proximity to the Broads, the sea, many National Trust properties and much more.

We have booked to go again next year.

“Luxury, truly dog-friendly, accommodation”

The Lodge was a wonderful place for my short stay with three dogs. The garden is safe and secure for the dogs, there are walks straight from the door and Jo and John were most welcoming and I felt the dogs were really welcome too.

The layout and furnishings have been well thought out and everything in the Lodge was of high quality. It was all so beautifully clean too, I hope I managed to leave it as I had found it. (It felt almost too good to be true that it was so dog-friendly!)

The welcome basket was much appreciated by me and the dogs. I can’t think of anything that hadn’t been thought about to ensure a comfortable and relaxing break. The Lodge is in a quiet rural setting but not isolated for someone like me staying on their own. I can thoroughly recommend it.

Specifically Recommend:

The location is ideal for visiting the beaches. There are many close by including the one a bit below Sea Palling with dozens of seals on.

Walking and cycling opportunities from the door, very dog-friendly. Sunny deck with plenty of space for both humans and dogs to sit outside, nice enclosed grass area for dogs to potter around (gate not Pointer proof though!) Very friendly dog on the other side of the fence for them to chat to.

Easy, short drive to the coast for dog-friendly beach and cliff top walking, as well as to food shops and places to eat out, and woodland walks a little further afield.

“A fabulous dog-friendly place that should not be missed”

The Lodge is lovely, we were very impressed upon arrival, the lodge has an enclosed, escape-proof garden, which was a priority for us. We were met by the owner, John, who was very nice and gave us all the information we needed.

There was a welcome basket, tea, coffee, milk, eggs, jam and some homemade dog biscuits which our dog, Barney, loved, there were also flowers.

It had a good bathroom and fantastic, super king-size bed. Lots of safe places to walk your dog. Loved how The Lodge provided a crate, blankets, bowls and towels. A truly dog-friendly place.

Summary:

“Small but perfectly formed!”

The Lodge has been finished to a high standard and although compact had everything we needed for us and our four Greyhounds without feeling cramped. The enormous bed is very comfortable and the remote control toilet was a welcome first for us!

The heating is so efficient and we were lovely and warm. Everything was so well thought out and exceeded our expectations. The flowers and welcome goodies were much appreciated. It was very peaceful although there was an automated bird scarer nearby that you could hear in the garden but not inside as its so well insulated and it is in the country!

The decking is lovely and although the garden isn’t the biggest it was fine for our four dogs and fully fenced and gated.

Specifically Recommend:

Ease of access

Remote controlled toilet

Big comfortable bed

Good internet access

Flat screen TV with Sky

Local Gems:

Happisburgh beach - in fact all of the beaches! beautiful and dog-friendly

Smallsticks cafe at Cart Gap - dog-friendly garden

Sugar and Spice at Bacton

Greyhound Inn - very dog-friendly with a big garden

’’Vicky I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay at The Lodge and appreciated all the great features as well as the local beaches with your dogs. We aim wherever possible to meet expectations so to hear from you that The Lodge exceeded them will make the owners very happy as they work hard to make the Lodge comfortable and welcoming for their guests. Thank you very much for taking the time to do this review’’ - Sue

Summary:

“Relaxing, with everything to make your holiday enjoyable”

The Lodge is modern, well equipped and set in a delightful rural area of Norfolk. The property has a modern kitchen-dining area, although we mostly dined al fresco on the large decking area.

In the lounge, there is a flat-screen TV,with DVDs and a selection of games. The spacious bedroom has a very comfortable super king-size bed, so a good night’s sleep is assured. In the bathroom, which has been designed as a wet-room, the super-loo was a revelation, and a great idea for guests with mobility needs.

This property exceeded our expectations, and the thought given in ensuring guests were welcomed and informed were second to none. A welcome basket was a delightful touch, with some locally produced items, even treats for the dogs. Quiet, relaxing, and just super !!

Specifically Recommend:

Lovely walks, good pubs, great local produce.

Easy access for wheelchair users.

Great for bird-watchers.

Local Gems:

The Star at Lessingham ----amazingly good roast dinners. Happisburgh beach (dog-friendly) East Ruston Gardens.

En Route:

Newmarket, to visit family.

Owner’s Reply:

’’Thanks Ginny for your review, very comprehensive and great for others to read to get an idea of all that is good about The Lodge and the area. I totally agree with you about the Sunday lunches at The Star! Another good place for a cracking Sunday lunch is the Swan at Ingham. The Vicarage Gardens (although not dog friendly sadly) are very worth a visit when in this area and a very short distance away. Delighted that The Lodge exceeded your expectations!’’ - Sue

Summary:

“Very dog-friendly but stylish too.”

The Lodge was small but perfectly formed - enough room for two (not small) people and one (quite small) dog. It had most of the things you would hope for in a good quality holiday let and was stylish, well laid out and clean with nice touches - small food parcel and dog equipment.

The area is very appealing and the Lodge and the area were very dog-friendly with a small garden enclosed for the dog and pubs, leisure options etc all suitable for dogs to visit.

It had fairly good disabled access (ramps and wet room) and was pleasantly rural (so, yes, there are the noises from nearby farms and livestock and there is a drainage scheme being installed nearby though this had little impact on us.)

Suitable for couples or a pair of friends and definitely dogs (they will accept more than one)

Specifically Recommend:

The large bed
Good parking
Enclosed garden
Dishwasher and small freezer, washing machine
Dog towels provided, friendly owners.

Local Gems:

The beach at Sea Palling
The Star Inn Lessingham for a drink
The steam railway and broads cruise for dog-friendly days out if the weather is not suitable for walking.

Owner’s Reply:

’’That’s a very useful review thank you Anne. So glad you enjoyed your time at the Lodge. It is, as you say, small but perfectly formed. The outside decking and grass area (all enclosed) is going to be great for summer bookings and the super efficient heating inside will keep it warm and cosy in the winter. Perfect! Thanks again for taking the time to do a review’’ - Sue

Summary:

“Fantastic dog-friendly, relaxing accommodation”

Myself, my sister and my four dogs have just returned from a very relaxing Bank Holiday weekend at The Lodge in East Ruston.

The accommodation was very comfortable and stylish and we had just the right amount of room. It was absolutely lovely to have an enclosed garden and not to worry about my beloved dogs escaping. We spent some lovely time exploring the countryside and local dog beaches all within a short driving distance. The locals were very welcoming and the hospitality was great.

We will be returning that’s for sure as it was very sad to leave. Would really recommend this lovely getaway to anyone wanting a relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.

Specifically Recommend:

Beaches

Local Gems:

Weavers Way walks and Happisburough dog-friendly beach.
