Summary:

“A wonderful base in a beautiful part of North Yorkshire”

Even though our family had said how lovely Skylarks is, it was nicer than we had imagined. Filey too, is a little gem, with a compact town centre.

The bungalow was immaculately clean, with modern, tasteful, comfortable furnishings throughout. The kitchen was very well-equipped, and there was tea, coffee, condiments, washing-up liquid and cleaning products.

The bedrooms had comfy beds and plenty of hangers in the wardrobes. The bathroom had a bath and easy to work shower, and we were provided with lovely fluffy towels.

There was a well-stocked bookcase with books, magazines, games and DVDs. We didn’t need to avail ourselves of these, as the weather was fantastic during the week we were in Filey, but thought it was a thoughtful gesture. Everything had been thought of to enhance our stay.

The bungalow is situated on a quiet estate within easy walking distance of Filey centre. The back garden was next to a field, and was very peaceful to relax in

Specifically Recommend:

Filey is an unspoilt gem on the Yorkshire coast, within easy distance of many attractions. It has supermarkets and some rather nice independent shops. We found some real ale pubs, and plenty of eating places to suit every pocket.

Scarborough and Bridlington are a short drive away, or there are regular buses. We walked on the Cleveland Way, and along the beach to Filey Brig and to Primrose Valley. There is bird watching at Bempton and caves at Flamborough. We also walked to the Bird and Animal Park, and The Dams Nature Reserve.

Be Aware:

Filey is the sort of unspoilt place for a relaxing holiday, and Skylarks is a great base. It probably wouldn’t suit anyone who wanted an all-action holiday with nightlife.

Local Gems:

Inghams for their fish and chips.

The Station pub for real ale and inexpensive food.

The Buccaneer for cheap ales and twice weekly steak nights.

Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park within walking distance and reasonably priced.

Crescent Gardens for watching the world go by.

The beach is beautiful too, long and very clean.

En Route:

We didn’t have a long journey, as we only travelled from West Yorkshire to Filey. As two adults, we didn’t need to stop, but there are plenty of places to stop on the A64 and A1039.

“The best holiday home we have ever stayed in, it was so good we came back for a second visit!!!!”

Exceeded our expectations - it was so clean and cosy, even things like the fridge were spotless which is something a lot of people forget to do after each occupancy.

The bedroom is much nicer than the pictures on website.

Lovely and quiet.

Good views from the rear of the property.

Everything you need is provided.

Number 22 in Filey for lunch - it was nice and staff were very friendly

Summary:

“Very relaxing, made even better by great accommodation, and quiet location of bungalow”

The bungalow was very clean and the decor was lovely - in reality much nicer than the advert. Very calming and relaxing place to stay. From the minute you walked in the door, you felt at home, and not like you were staying in someone else’s home. The little added touches in every room were really nice, as was the friendly greeting from Sue, the owner, when we arrived.

The bungalow was easy to find, and a little gem after a 5.5 hour drive. Skylarks was a very clean and modern bungalow, and we could not recommend it enough as a place to stay in Filey. It is very homely, and the little added touches made all the difference.

From the minute you went through the front door, you felt at home and comfortable, and not like you feel in some self-catering accommodation. It was clean, comfortable, and very well decorated with lovely bedding and white fluffy towels.

It is in a very quiet location, close to lovely coastal walks, and backs onto open fields. Better still, it’s only a 15 minute walk to the beach or town centre. It is also close to Scarborough, Whitby and Flamborough Head - all easily accessible via car. We also took the train into York for the day.

Specifically Recommend:

The location is great, backing onto open fields and cliff tops, with wonderful views.

It is a nice modern bungalow, in a very quiet location, and the owners take great care of the property.

It is walking distance into the town or to the beach, where there are numerous cafes and shops open during the day.

There are numerous walks, not just around town, but you can access the coastal walk along the cliff tops to Scarborough just three minutes from the bungalow, or just walk a part of it for the views

Be Aware:

Nothing other than you will not fail to be impressed with the bungalow...

They had done everything possible to make our stay very comfortable...It was a brilliant place to stay and we cannot recommend it enough.

Local Gems:

For a drink and-or good food, and friendly staff, visit The Star in Filey town. (Restaurant closed on Mondays). Or the Corner Cafe, where food is served every day. A visit to Flamborough Head is a must, the views are spectacular.

The beach at Filey is very long and a nice place to walk along the promenade, stopping for the occasional coffee, tea or ice cream.

Also a visit to The Eden Project - (Editor’s Note - think this should be Eden Camp) - and Castle Howard are a must, both very different but great places to visit

En Route:

We travelled from Kent to Filey, and only stopped once at Peterborough Services, which I must say was one of the best service stations we have stopped at

Summary:

“This was the best holiday accommodation we have stayed in, a perfect home from home”

We have stayed in a lot of cottages, some rated 5 star, and this was the best by far! The pictures on the website didn’t do it justice - it should have been awarded a 5 star rating.

The space and standard of accommodation was excellent! Very well equipped. It was nice to have a separate kitchen

Specifically Recommend:

We were lovely and warm and had everything we needed, I felt like I was at home what more can you wish for.

The cleanliness of accommodation was excellent all thanks to the owners, Sue & Eddie, who personally clean the property themselves.

They also left wine, chocolates and biscuits as a welcome gift which were very much appreciated.

It was easy walking distance to the beach and shops and in a very quiet area.

“It was lovely ..how much to buy it please”

A lovely clean, light bungalow - exactly what we wanted for a short break.

Plenty of things in the bungalow - just like home from home.

Wonderful views at the back to the cliffs

Specifically Recommend:

The lovely light sitting room and the suite is gorgeous!!!!

Be Aware:

You won’t want to leave !!!!

The only thing we got stuck on was the heating was on too long during the day .. was roasting at times and we did turn the heating right down !!!

En Route:

We were travelling from Lancs to Filey via Thirsk - a lovely scenic route. We saw deer and a stork in a tree!!!

Summary:

“Most enjoyable, relaxing and looking forward to returning soon”

Skylarks bungalow was one of the nicest places that we have stayed. Very much a home-from-home feeling. The bungalow was bright and spacious. Simply decorated in neutral colours. Set in a quiet housing area, it is quiet and peaceful, yet near enough to walk to beach and town.

The modern kitchen contains all that you would require - washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, and good range of crockery and cutlery and, most importantly, a corkscrew!!!

The only problem we had was that we had forgotten to bring our highchair, so meal times proved a little tricky. Perhaps if there was one available this would be useful, but as this was our mistake and we did not ask if there was a highchair available, then no, there was nothing else that we felt would have made our stay more comfortable.

The bedrooms both had a beautiful view onto the garden and beyond across the cornfields, where in the evenings we could watch a deer and the birds. The beds were most comfy too. TV, video, DVD player and comfy sofas great for relaxing after the days events. Highly recommended accommodation.

The little touches made a great difference such as washing-up liquid, soap, toilet roll, salt & vinegar, bin bags and kitchen towels. The things you would sometimes forget to take but are a necessity, it makes life that little bit easier. Shows the owner is thinking about you! Also the loan of a travel cot was great

Specifically Recommend:

There were no fussy ornaments and dressings, also an enclosed back garden, which made it very child-friendly.

A short distance from the bungalow you can walk to the cliff tops for a beautiful view off the sea and landscape.
