“If you have a dog then you’ll all love Rooster Barn”

Been there before and will go again. Very dog-friendly with safe outside space for your dog, good welcome pack of dog treats and adult treats alike.

Very comfortable and fully equipped accommodation with a lot of extras, including tea, coffee, sauces, washing up liquid, foil etc which you would normally have to take yourself, plus lots of info about the area.

We checked out the dog-friendly beaches and days out before we went so had an idea of what we wanted to do.

“A hidden gem”

This is 5 star accommodation in a delightful setting. The added advantage of the large garden is that it is completely secure which allows for a relaxing stay for both people and hounds alike.

The location is perfect for access to many nearby dog-friendly beaches and woodlands. It is not surprising that early booking is advised as so many people, as do we, want to keep coming back again and again.

Rooster Barn is the best cottage we have ever stayed in and beautifully equipped.

“Great place for a doggy holiday”

We had a great time at Rooster Barn, the barn is very well equipped and really comfy. We had a couple of chilly evenings so lit the log burner and it was soon warm and toasty.

There is every thing you need for a good self-catering holiday. The welcome pack is lovely the dogs loved the home made biscuits.

The beaches are fantastic - the dogs loved it. We had some great walks - did get a little lost on one of them but only added to the fun.

It is that good we have already booked for next year and can’t wait

“Looking forward to returning already !”

This is our 3rd visit to Rooster Barn and we have already booked our 4th. Each time we visit our stay gets even better with little added comforts in the barn, Rooster offers the most relaxing stay for a UK holiday.

It is ideally located to visit the wonderful North Norfolk beaches. There are excellent seafood shacks in very locally proximity, this year the scallops were at their very best.

The dogs love the garden in the barn too as even if they have walked all day there is still space for some ball games at the end of the day.

“Super Dog-Friendly”

Just back from our third stay at Rooster Barn, just love it, such a gorgeous Barn conversion, feel at home as soon as you walk in the door. It is spacious, warm, exceptionally clean, in a lovely quiet location, includes everything you could wish for or need for a perfect relaxing holiday, including the bed and sofas which are just so comfortable.

Also perfect for the dogs, with the large, fully secure garden. We all really appreciate the welcome pack, loads of home baked goodies for both human and canine. The location is excellent too, just a short drive to loads of dog-friendly beaches and woods, but should you wish to venture further afield, loads of stunning places to visit within a hour’s drive.

Really cannot fault anything, Sue really does make sure her properties are super dog-friendly and not just dog-tolerant.

“Great place to take dogs on holiday”

Great place for a relaxing holiday, home-from-home. The dogs had a lovely time, very safe and everything catered for, throws for furniture, bowls, towels and even dog biscuits. The adult welcome pack was great too, everything you needed for afternoon tea.

Location was good for touring all the lovely beaches - some of them felt like we were in the Caribbean. Local produce in the shops. Great place for walking and then coming back for a relaxing evening.

It’s the first place we have been to that takes as many dogs as you like. We liked it so much we have booked another house for the family in the summer and of course the dogs can come too.

Summary:

“Fabulous! Will definitely be on my return-to list!”

We had a fabulous time from the first to last day. The welcome pack is second-to-none, the dog-friendliness is outstanding and the cottage is beautiful.

The location is convenient for beach or countryside activities, the local shop is well stocked with everything you could possibly need and although we didn’t use it the pub was within walking distance.

We were supplied with a cot, high chair and stair gate for the littleys and dog bed, bowls and so many throws for the furniture that there wasn’t anything to worry about. The stairs to the upstairs are very steep but we had been warned in advance.

The garden was very secure with a nice amount of gravel and grass. Dogs and children used it well (it was fabulous for our Easter Egg hunt!).

We were never stuck for anything to do as there is an abundance of information on what to do and where to go, we ran out of time to do everything we wanted to.

We loved our holiday home and didn’t want to leave it.

Specifically Recommend:

Definitely the Dog-Friendliness of the cottage.

“Great place!”

We stayed at Rooster Barn with our three dogs and our friends joined us for a couple of days with their two dogs. The barn has been beautifully converted and everything is just so. It is ideally situated in a peaceful village and is very near to lovely sandy beaches such as Mundesley.

Sadly one of our lovely dogs, Mabu, was taken ill whilst we were away and we cut our trip short. Poor Mabu is no longer with us but he really enjoyed sitting in the sun in the garden at Rooster Barn. We would love to come back with our other two dogs, Monty and Woody.

Sue Allen, who runs East Ruston Cottages is very helpful and is a dog-lover herself. Whilst we were at the barn, her friendly husband Dermot came to work wonders with a small problem with the boiler. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank You.

“Highly recommended, very comfortable and cosy”

A wonderful winter break from start to finish. The welcome pack was a nice surprise. The property is spacious but with a cosy feel.

The village has a local shop and pub within walking distance and it is a short drive to many local beaches and other areas to explore. We enjoyed a number of walks along the coastline and inland.

Very dog-friendly holiday - our dog reluctantly got in the car to come home. The humans were also reluctant to leave, so we will back to discover more next time!!

’’A lovely review thank you Yvonne. So pleased you had a good winter break at Rooster Barn. It’s a cosy place to return to (with the underfloor heating AND the large woodburner) after a winter walk but also is light and airy in the summer when all the double doors can be thrown open to allow the sunshine in. Summary:

“Lovely welcoming barn, very well equipped and a great garden for dogs”

Lovely property, exceptionally clean and welcoming. Excellent size and really secure garden, ideal for dogs. We had 4 mid-size with us.

Christmas decorations were lovely and of a high quality. Kitchen was very well equipped with everything you could need provided. Wood-burning stove was a real feature and cost of logs was very reasonable. Downstairs bedroom and ensuite were lovely although the ensuite shower would benefit from a curtain.

Overall I’d recommend Rooster Barn to anyone looking for a cosy property in a great location, ideally suited to either a couple or a family with teenagers due to staircase and ceiling height.

Specifically Recommend:

The beach at Sea Palling is great and Bacton Woods is a lovely walk.

Be Aware:

The only downsides for us was the paddle staircase which was very steep and not really suitable for young children or anyone with reduced mobility.

Also the upstairs bedroom has very slopped walls which caused some difficulty for my 6ft husband

Local Gems:

Bacton Woods and Sea Palling

“Lovely dog-friendly Barn”

We have just had a wonderful week at Rooster Barn. The Barn has everything you need and is spacious and clean. We arrived to find some lovely treats waiting for us including fudge and cake along with bread and jam. Even the dogs had some homemade biscuits waiting for them !

The barn was located close to some very lovely beaches which were ideal for walking the dogs, and the owners supplied throws so that the dogs could make themselves at home on the furniture.

Specifically Recommend:

Great for a couple looking for somewhere to relax with their dogs.

Be Aware:

The only downside was that the second bedroom was up some steep stairs and the mattresses were not very comfortable. Best suited for children rather than adults !

Local Gems:

The Ingham Swan pub located in Ingham.

Horsey Beach where the seals give birth November - January.

Happisburgh beach where the dogs just loved to run.

“Lovely”

This property is beautiful and feels like a home rather than a holiday house. The fixture and fittings are of superb quality and it was spotlessly clean on arrival with absolutely no clue that this house welcomes dogs to stay.

It was lovely and warm during our winter break with its underfloor heating and the fantastic wood burner. The garden is large and safe for dogs and children.

I would highly recommend this property to anyone wishing to have a comfortable, relaxing break with miles of sandy beaches close by.

Specifically Recommend:

Great safe garden.

’’Thanks Faith for that great review. Considering just about every single booking at Rooster Barn includes at least one dog that’s quite an achievement by our lovely cleaner Danielle! The owners of the barn absolutely love it and spend a lot of time and money making it as nice as it possibly can be for their guests which is definitely reflected in the great bookings they have. So pleased you enjoyed your holiday here’’ - Sue

“Super relaxed multiple dog-friendly place to stay!”

Rooster Barn is at the end of a small quiet lane, with a large, secure garden. There is a good local pub and a well stocked shop within a couple of minutes’ walk from the barn. Five mins by car to the beach offering long uninterrupted walks.

Everything you could ever need is laid on at the barn all you need to take is yourselves and your dogs!!

This property is ideal for dogs and if you have mobility problems, however the first floor bedroom has steep paddle stairs and would be tricky for anyone with a disability or children.

A great place to stay, it definitely gets the thumbs up!

Stairs steep - for elderly or infirm access would be very difficult if not impossible.

Chubby Panda takeaway also excellent

’’Sounds like you managed to visit a lot of places during your week at Rooster Barn. There are so many interesting places around plus the great, easy, sandy, dog-friendly beaches. “Absolutely amazing, I cannot praise this place enough or any of the other properties we have visited that are run by Sue and Dermot Allen - they are really great. Thank you so much again for a wonderful stay”

This has to be one of the most amazing places - we so love the group of cottages which is www.eastrustoncottages.co.uk - they are always very clean and tidy and always very close to all amenities.

Sue is awesome as she caters for a lot of dogs and this means so much to us as there appears such a lack of dog-friendly cottages that are outstanding.

Specifically Recommend:

People who want to take their dogs

Walking

Relaxing

A great selection of pubs and restaurants locally

Beautiful surroundings

Well connected to beaches and towns

Local Gems:

We loved the Vernon Arms as it was so dog-friendly. Nice to have a pub to go in with our two Labradors. Also if you love beaches and taking dogs it is definitely Sea Palling or Eccles - they are wonderful.

We also love Cromer and Sheringham for good seaside places to visit.

“Dog and Owner home-from-home”

Rooster Barn is immaculate. The accommodation is to an exceptionally high standard. It’s warm and cosy with underfloor heating and a fabulous double-sided wood burner. The fully enclosed paddock is completely secure for little and big noses. The kitchen facilities are comprehensive and there are games, books, maps and local information galore.

It truly is a home-from-home. There is an amazing welcome pack including delicious handmade dog biscuits. The local dog-friendly pub is a two minute walk away and the local shop is the same.

The decor is well thought out and the open plan feel gives the dogs plenty of rooms to wander when not sleeping in front of the fire. Upstairs bedroom is just beautiful but the stairs are steep and not dog-friendly which can be a bonus if you need a bit of peace.

I have never stayed anywhere UK or otherwise that feels so relaxing from the minute you walk through the door. The standard is superior to most dog-friendly accommodation and the equal of many non-dog-friendly places. Finally a company have realised that people with dogs care about where they stay and also treat the accommodation with the respect it deserves.

Specifically Recommend:

The large fully enclosed paddock.

Double sided cosy wood burner

Comfy bed with lovely bedding.

Full size patio doors letting the sun stream in

Locality to small village of Trunch

Delicious welcome pack

The contact numbers when needing advice

Local Gems:

Bacton Woods

Mundesley Beach

Cromer

Pigny Woods

North Walsham

Hickling Broads and the Greyhound Pub

“Lovely, Rooster-themed barn conversion with everything you need for a relaxing holiday!”

Lovely open-plan design, although beware of the beams if you’re tall (6ft 2)!! Yes, the paddle stairs were very steep but it was exactly as described on the web site.

Probably more suited to families with older children due to the stairs. Loved the welcome pack. Wi-Fi a real bonus. Very quiet area which suited us.

Trunchonbury music festival (August) was just five minutes’ walk away and well worth going for the whole family.

Specifically Recommend:

Truly Local at Stalham - well worth a visit for truly local food.

Local Gems:

We loved Sea Palling beach. Lovely sandy beach for a stroll with the dog, toilet facilities and refreshments available.

Trunchonbury, music festival.

’’Thank you Marguerite for your lovely review. Rooster Barn really is one of the gems of East Ruston Cottages SO dog-friendly but, as you say, beautifully converted and presented too. Summary:

“We’re booking to go back!”

Like we have come to expect from all East Ruston cottages, our dog was as welcome as we were. If you think that means a less than spectacular level of hygiene you are so very wrong. Rooster Barn is wonderful, a beautiful conversion and it’s spotless. The welcome pack was as fab as always with yummy biccies for Molly our dog. We also found huge throws to cover the sofas so she could snuggle up after a day running on the beach.

Other agency owners need to take note, there is a massive difference between ’’dogs accepted’’ at a place - and then we find they have to be left in the kitchen - and a ’’dogs welcome’’. East Ruston truly welcome dogs. The garden is huge and escape-proof with lots of space for games. And if you don’t have a dog, you’d never know one had been such is the standard of repair and maintenance.

Trunch is peaceful and there were lots of walks for us in the immediate area. We explored the village and the local pub.

Specifically Recommend:

The open plan barn means you can have a cosy holiday with your dogs close by.

We really enjoyed the extras for dogs and the safe garden

Be Aware:

The Barn itself would suit a person with mobility issues (I have dyspraxia) as there is a ground floor bedroom with an en-suite but do note that the second bedroom is up a paddle stairs which would be a issue for me (and probably your dog if it likes to sleep in the same room as you!).

Local Gems:

Cart Gap beach

Walking around Felbrigg Hall (on lead all the time but there were good sniffs for dogs).

En Route:

We’re only in Cambridgeshire so we didn’t need to stop but recommend Castle Acre and Ickworth Hall (again dogs are on lead at both)

Berenice & Molly, Cambridge - 22nd June 2014

Owner’s Reply:

’’So glad you liked Rooster Barn Berenice, it’s one of my favourites. The owners have put SO much effort and thought into making it as good as it is and I know the cleaner will be really pleased to read your comments too as she works very hard to keep the cleaning standards high.

With the underfloor heating and huge woodburner it is a cosy house for the winter months and in the summer you can throw open all the patio doors and enjoy the gravel and paved patio and that lovely big grass area for the dogs. It even has a hookup point so you could have visiting friends with motorhomes if you wanted!’’ - Sue

“FAB FAB FAB !”

This was an absolutely fantastic break. The property was peaceful, well furnished and we asked ourselves ’could we live here’.... a resounding ’’YES’’

The welcome pack was brilliant and showed the attention to detail that East Ruston Holiday Cottages do so well ! This was our first stay (indeed our first holiday for a number of years since we had the dogs) I can’t recommend Rooster Barn enough ! Sue has been amazing, whenever we had a question she was right back with an answer, the information folder was informative and relevant.

Our three greys are still worn out with all the beach walking (running) - lovely beaches and days out in peaceful surroundings only rivaled by the amazing gardens at Rooster ! Do you want a holiday where dogs are welcome This is it !

Specifically Recommend:

Dog friendly.

Amazing support from Sue.

Brilliant beaches within minutes’ drive. Peaceful and beautiful property

Be Aware:

The only thing to mention is the stairs to the upstairs bedroom - steep to say the least however

Local Gems:

Bacton beach.

Happisburgh.

Horsey Gap - Seals !

Cromer

“Cock-a-doodle dandy”

Our first stay at Rooster Barn. A beautiful barn with a lovely big dog-friendly garden. Lots of little extras like fresh flowers, eggs and a beautiful cake. The dogs also appreciated the home made dog biscuits (one of the human guests was tempted too!)

Feature fireplace with a wood burning stove and free WiFi and satellite television.

Lovely country walks right from the doorstep, but also close enough to be able to walk to the village pub or shop. Short drive to the beach and to the woods.

Would recommend to anyone with dogs or children.

Specifically Recommend:

Local walks, welcome pack, wildlife at Pigney Woods

Be Aware:

The stairs might be difficult for anyone with mobility issues although there is a beautiful en-suite double bedroom on the ground floor

Local Gems:

The Star at Lessingham
Happisburgh beach
Smallsticks Cafe at Cart Gap Sea Palling
Pigney Woods

Owner’s Reply:

’’Well Julie I am very glad you liked Rooster Barn as I think it’s a great little place and the bookings now nearly rival those of The Old Piggery and you know how popular that is! Thanks for taking to time to write this review - I send them on to the owner and she is absolutely delighted. She takes great pride in it and really loves to have it enjoyed by guests and their dogs’’ - Sue

Summary:

“A very comfortable, well equipped place to stay in a lovely peaceful village location”

Rooster Barn definitely ticked all the above boxes and was very comfortable and well equipped.

We did lots of walking (often not needing the car) in lovely countryside and also enjoyed relaxing in the peaceful (dog friendly) garden.

It was great to have tea, coffee etc supplied along with household items, so we didn’t need to take them

Specifically Recommend:

The lovely quiet location

Be Aware:

Apart from the steep stairs - which would be difficult for someone with mobility issues - this was a fabulous place to stay.

Local Gems:

The Crown pub in the village
The Vernon Arms in Southrepps
Roughton Garden Centre

Owner’s Reply:

’’ Many thanks for your kind review Kath and so glad you enjoyed lovely little Rooster Barn. I try to ensure that all the East Ruston Cottages properties have tea, coffee, sugar and milk supplied as a minimum. Most of them have cake, dog biscuits and some locally produced goodies waiting for guests when they arrive. I want all the guests to feel very welcome. Hope to see you back here again soon.

PS Really glad you were able to enjoy the walking on the doorstep it’s an easy part of the country to walk in isn’t it’’ - Sue
