“A wonderful place to relax or explore”

The ease of booking was fantastic as was the information we received after booking. Otter lodge is a wonderful home from home. A superb location with superior facilities.

My husband and I and also Cally and Daisy slept like babies after walking for hours. I would highly recommend the lodge for couples or for families with children and especially those with dogs

“A little bit of Heaven on earth!”

Stayed in Otter Lodge which has everything you need for a comfortable stay. A stunning park, secluded with breathtaking views.

With an enclosed dog-friendly field so your little four legged friend can go off-lead.

We wanted a relaxed break away and that’s just what we got.

10 mins from Lake Windermere, again with stunning views. Would recommend to all. Family-friendly, dog-friendly - a lovely site with great people.

Specifically Recommend:

We wanted a small site, it’s lovely.

Wished we’d found it when our children were young as the river runs through parts of it where the children can paddle.

It’s very well looked after, clean and tidy, and with their own pub on site which serves great meals.

“Relaxing and friendly holiday site”

Comfortable, cosy, lodge, only a few miles from Windermere and all the main attractions.

The lodge is well equipped, ideal either to eat-in or visit The Haybarn, the excellent public house on site.

I would say it is big enough for a couple and a dog, but might struggle to fit a small family in it.

Specifically Recommend:

The area is ideal for walkers and bikers alike, either for beginners or professionals.

Local Gems:

South Lakeland, boat trip, train ride and visit to the Transport Museum, a must for any visit to Windermere.

“Otter Lodge - cosy, homely lodge in a beautiful, relaxing setting”

Otter Lodge is a lovely, cosy and homely lodge in a beautiful setting. The lodge overlooks the beck which is lovely to sit and listen to whilst sitting out on the verandah.

Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and Limefitt Park is very dog-friendly. I would recommend it to anyone thinking of going on holiday with their beloved pet.

Limefitt Park is only 3 miles from Windermere so is the perfect location for shopping, walking and taking in the breathtaking views. There is an adventure playground and a river pool at Limefitt Park so it is an ideal place for kids to play safely and securely.

It really is the perfect get away from it all holiday. Very peaceful and relaxing. Couldn’t ask for anything more!

Specifically Recommend:

We had never taken our dog on holiday before so didn’t know what to expect but we had nothing to worry about at all. From the moment we arrived, we could tell how dog-friendly Limefitt Park was.

I would recommend going out for a meal (yes, with your dog too!!) to either the Haybarn Inn, which is on site at Limefitt Park, or the Mortal Man in Troutbeck, as they are both very dog-friendly places and the food is delicious. We took our dog with us to both places and they couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful. They made such a fuss over our puppy and it made the experience both more enjoyable and relaxing.

Local Gems:

I would recommend the circular walk from Limefitt Park to Dubbs Reservoir and back again. It took us about two hours to do. It is a lovely walk with breathtaking views of Lake Windermere.

“A comfortable, well-equipped base for exploring The Lakes ”

I stayed for a week during September with my sister in Otter Lodge and we were very happy with the accommodation which had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.

We were a party of 10 so my friends stayed in Troutbeck View Lodge, Windermere Lodge and Kingfisher Lodge. All four lodges are owned by John and Linda Hobson and all ten of us would highly recommend them.

The accommodation is very good and they are very well located for exploring the lakes and villages. The lodges are all dog-friendly with the decking being enclosed.

Specifically Recommend:

Sitting out on the decking looking out over the beck in the evening after a day’s walking.

Be Aware:

The second bedroom is very small and has bunk beds but was very comfortable. There are steps leading down to the lodge from the car parking but they did not present a problem. The owners had told us about both the steps and the bunk beds at the time of booking.

The Mortal Man and The Queen’s Head local inns both serving good food.

“Perfect base for visiting the Lake District”

Our stay met and exceeded all expectations. The location was perfect and in easy reach of all the places we wished to visit.

The property was clean, comfortable, well equipped and a home from home. The park was quiet and relaxing, with the views all around beautiful.

The dog field was a real bonus, despite the weather, along with the lovely beck that they enjoyed paddling in. Our grandson enjoyed the play area and having a place on site to eat was perfect for all of us.

Specifically Recommend:

Drive through Kirkstone Pass

Be Aware:

We were aware of the steep steps down to the lodge but we never experienced any problems with our two dogs and three year old grandson.

Local Gems:

Driving along Kirkstone path was a real visual treat.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Ullswater, the boat trip and walk along the lake - peaceful and beautiful.

“Relaxing, Beautiful, Stunning Holiday Lodge in the Lakes”

Otter Lodge is in a prime location on the Limefitt Park bang next to the beautiful beck. It is both private and peaceful - we couldn’t have wished for a better holiday lodge.

The lodge was well furnished, clean and had everything you could require whilst on holiday.

We went to have a relaxing break but with a small child and two Springer Spaniels we ended up having a fun-packed holiday. Once our child was sound asleep and the dogs were walked after a busy day, a cold drink sat outside listening to the beck running past was fantastic.

The park had all the facilities you could require, the dog field had the most beautiful back drop along with the children’s playground, the river pool was great fun - our son and our two dogs loved it and looked forward to it every day. We used the on-site laundry which was modern clean and tidy.

“Loved it. Already planning how soon we can go back!”

Our first visit to Limefitt Park - what a wonderful place. Otter Lodge is located in one of the best spots on the park, overlooking the beck. On the opposite side of the beck, we enjoyed views of the horses grazing in the field.

Otter Lodge is clean and comfortable, and was fine for our long week-end, in the sunshine. We did wonder, though, if our two strapping teenage boys and ourselves may find it a little on the small side if our stay was longer, and if the rain forced us to spend more time indoors. As it was, the generous outdoor decking was perfect for breakfasts etc. The decking was secure and enclosed, so our dog could enjoy it too!

It was great to meet our lodge owners, John and Linda, who were spending the weekend elsewhere on the park. They were welcoming and concerned that all was well for us, but unobtrusive.

Limefitt is a great base for walkers, with direct access to low-level walks, and some more challenging walks for the more energetic. We parked our car on arrival, and didn’t go near it again until we reluctantly returned home. We’ll be back.

Specifically Recommend:

Would specifically recommend to those who enjoy the countryside, walkers, and dog owners. Our Hungarian Vizsla was in doggy heaven!

Local Gems:

Dog field, not your usual poo-laden enclosure. A huge space, wonderful views, you could spend the morning there!

The Haybarn, the on-site pub, much better than anticipated.

“Relaxing, fun, and we will be going back”

The website did not do themselves justice - amazing

The lodge was spotless and had everything you could have wanted from matches to bedtime story books - very handy. A real home from home.

Very warm and cosy. The surroundings were amazing, waking up to the sound of a babbling river to ponies on the other side of the river to the birds and squirrels.

My dog was so spoilt by the countryside walks, (and very tired out), and the friendliness of the Haybarn pub on site. My little girl loved the freedom of the play area and the river. Other guests were very friendly.

Specifically Recommend:

Windermere was amazing and lots to do for my little girl....Beatrix Potter centre, boat rides, adventure parks, Brockhole visitors’ centre being a fave because of the parks, the lake and the bird walk where we got to fly a bird of prey.

Be Aware:

Only that when packing to go to the lodge you really don’t need much. Cannot state how much John & Linda have thought of every detail.

Could Provide..... Not one single thing. This was my second visit and my husband’s first - he was so impressed and I managed to get him to relax. Will definitely be going again soon

Summary:

“A great holiday in excellent accommodation in a beautiful setting, central for exploring the rest of the Lake District”

Well described on website with views of lodge. Contact with the owners was by email and telephone. Information regarding the accommodation was excellent down to a detailed inventory of all items in the lodge.

Definitely exceeded our expectations - the beauty of the beck running by the lodge was magical and made our holiday special.

Comfortable and cosy accommodation. Well-equipped with all amenities. Set in beautiful surroundings. Quiet and peaceful with the sound of the beck running by the lodge - (possibly more quiet as the schools had returned).

Dog-friendly site with exercise field. Lovely pub on site with large beer garden, again dog-friendly. Well behaved dogs were welcome inside. This was the first time we had taken our Labrador on holiday. She settled very well and enjoyed her stay, exercising in the dog area and swimming in the river. Otter lodge is excellent dog-friendly accommodation, with a veranda-decking around two sides of the lodge with a gate so the dog could be outside safely without bothering other guests.

French doors to the front which opened to lovely views and the sound of the beck running by. TV, electric log effect fire for cooler nights, DVD player, music centre provided. Books, magazines, games and leaflets of places to visit were provided. Comfortable leather suite to relax on. Bed very comfortable. Bathroom small but great shower with plenty of hot water to hand. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return.

Not having had a holiday in the Lakes since a teenager I forgot how much the beauty and majesty the area provides. This holiday was a perfect break and we will return as soon as we can manage.

Specifically Recommend:

Location - central for visiting all the Lakes.

Be Aware:

I write from the point of view of a dog owner, but the owners have other accommodation on site which do not accommodate dogs.

All accommodation is non-smoking but ash trays were available out on the decking area.

Local Gems:

We only stayed for 4 nights unfortunately. The weather was basIcally very good for the time of year, raining mostly at night. We visited Windermere, Ambleside, Bowness, Kendal and Keswick - doing a walk through wooded areas and along the lakeside.

Both Kendal and Keswick had a local market on the days we visited. Lovely shops and pubs or cafes to sit outside and enjoy a meal and a drink. Local people were very friendly. Tourist information is signposted in all towns.

En Route:

We travelled from Northumberland so not too far to drive (took 2 hours 40 minutes). We only did one stop at a service station.

We travelled via the Kirkstone pass and the beauty of the area takes your breath away. We then drove by Ullswater, Water Millock and Patterdale on to Troutbeck.

“A totally lovely get-away in outstanding surroundings!”

The cabin was as described on their website, but when you got there it was nicer than the pictures. It was in the best situation on the park, the view of the stream was wonderful. So relaxing sitting on the decking at night.

The park itself was well situated to visit any part of The Lakes easily and quickly. The park was peaceful but also suitable for children. The outdoor park and stream are easy entertainment for the kids.

The cabin was a home from home, everything you needed was there, it was lovely.

The cabin was in one of the best positions on the site, with the stream running right past it.

Specifically Recommend:

It would be great for all types of people, people with or without kids.

Be Aware:

Steep steps down to the cabin.

Local Gems:

The Mortal Man was by far the best pub

“Excellent, can’t wait to go back again”

The advert didn’t do the accommodation justice!

The accommodation was certainly 4 star, spotlessly clean and in beautiful surroundings.

Specifically Recommend:

It’s in such a good location for touring the Lake District, and in a beautiful spot on Limefitt Park, with the river running alongside the Cabin.

Local Gems:

There are two pubs in the local vicinity that have excellent food - The Mortal Man Inn and The Queen’s Head Hotel.

There is a local Spa shop not far from the accommodation which is very useful for food shopping.

En Route:

Windermere is great for shopping. Ambleside isn’t far away either and this is another good shopping area.

“Absolutely fantastic. Relaxing, peaceful with excellent access to all areas of interest”

Exactly as described in the advertisement. It was excellent, very homely.

The accommodation was comfortable, clean and had everything you could possibly need.

The park was very clean and we enjoyed the facilities on site.

The surroundings, being located near the river, were fantastic. So peaceful and relaxing.

Specifically Recommend:

Excellent access from the park to Kirkstone Pass, Ullswater, Bowness, Windemere and other areas of interest.

Be Aware:

Everything was perfect and the information file advising of all local facilities covered everything.

Local Gems:

The Haybarn on-site pub for meals was fantastic.

The Mortal Man located nearby was equally as good.

Don’t miss Aira Force (Waterfalls).

“The most peaceful and relaxing weekend I have had in a long time”

Otter Lodge exceeded all expectations once you see it for yourself.

It was more peaceful and beautiful than I could have imagined.

It was set in a very peaceful and tranquil part of the countryside, far enough away from the bustle of Windermere, but near enough to get to local amenities.

Specifically Recommend:

The lodge is extremely comfortable and provides everything you need for a relaxing break.

Local Gems:

The Mortal Man is an excellent pub with good quality food that is value for money.

En Route:

Travelled from outside Blackburn to Windermere. We didn’t stop.

Summary:

“Our holiday was extremely relaxing with amazing surroundings and a superb proposal!!!”

Otter Lodge was exactly as described on the website. The cleanliness was superb! Views were amazing and in the snow looked even better

The accommodation was very comfortable with all needed necessities and more - like home-from-home. We had no problems or issues but knew exactly where to go if there were any problems and were aware that they would get resolved promptly.

The lodge is situated in a wonderful setting, with stunning views and overlooked Trout Beck. We worried about the snow on arrival and the park was fully gritted and snow-ploughed except for the parking spaces, however this was understandable as it was Christmas Eve. We enjoyed a walk to The Mortal Man public house which was lovely, again in the snow.

Overall, we had a fantastic break and to top it off it my partner proposed to me inside the lodge on Christmas day with the perfect surroundings, so of course I said yes. Would recommend to all ages!

Specifically Recommend:

Specifically Recommend - The variety of walks around the area. Close proximity to pubs and a shop - Windermere is only down the road too.

The fantastic views.

The home-from-home feel in the lodge.

Be Aware:

Nothing. Everything is well catered for and the owners co-operated really well with our needs and we had a more than comfortable stay.

Local Gems:

The Mortal Man - 3 coal fires inside, very cosy.

The Lighthouse Restaurant (Windermere) - Good quality food.

Windermere-Bowness - Lovely little shops

En Route:

We travelled from Wolverhampton on the M6. Didn’t make any stops due to the weather, however, I did notice Ashton memorial in Lancaster on the left when travelling on the M6.

I must mention, due to the snow we were warned of the traffic, especially being Christmas Eve, but we had nothing so it was a bonus!

Owner’s Reply:

Congratulations! We are so happy that you got engaged in our lodge what a lovely story and thank you for such a glowing review!

Summary:

“Superb lodge in a magical setting”

We stayed in Otter Lodge which is positioned right at the edge of the stream (more like a small river). It is one of the best positioned lodges in all of the park, with a lovely view and surrounded by mature trees.

The Lodge was spotless when we arrived. It has everything and more in its contents, from an egg timer to ironing board and iron. Talk about home from home. The beds were very comfortable too.

The park setting was so stunning. An excellent shop, children’s play area and lovely dog field. Also its own pub and restaurant...very cosy.

Be Aware:

The steps down to Otter Lodge are quite steep and not suitable for anyone with mobility problems. However.... Kingfisher Lodge also owned by the same owners has easy access.

Local Gems:

Chesters, Coffee & Gift Shop - from Ambleside take the Coniston Road and Chesters is two and a half miles on the right.

Owner’s Reply:

We are so glad that our first ever guests at Otter Lodge have posted such a wonderful review.....We’ll now have to work hard to live up to it!
