“A treasure. A gem. Perfect dog and owner haven”

What a wonderful holiday. Nothing to worry about. A real escape. The cottage is superb. Clean, warm, cosy, well equipped, comfortable, snuggly sofas and beds.

Dogs really well catered for. Large secure garden. Only three minutes’ walk from a beautiful dog-friendly beach. Very quiet little village. Close to places to visit if you desire.

Having been twice, it is now my much treasured bolt hole. I love it to pieces.

Summary:

“Orchard Cottage, a place for all seasons”

Orchard Cottage is perfect for both dog owners and families with young children, as the large garden is safe and secure. It is a short walk from literally miles of clean beach in either direction and there are many footpaths and bridleways for countryside walking. It is well situated for touring North Norfolk and visiting places such as Cromer, Yarmouth or the Broads.

Orchard Cottage itself is a delight, being beautifully maintained by its owners, who have provided comfort and attention to detail in every room. Orchard Cottage is the sort of property that would be excellent no matter what the season or the weather!

There is good central heating and a lovely log burning stove for colder evenings. The kitchen is well equipped and provides a dishwasher and washing machine. There are dog bowls and throws for covering the furniture if needed for pooches. On arrival, guests will find freshly baked cakes, milk in the fridge and a lovely re-usable shopping bag to take home afterwards.

The local pub, a short walk away, is a gem, serving excellent food cooked on the premises, guest beers as well as their own brew and it welcomes dogs. Stalham, the nearest town, has good local produce for sale.

Specifically Recommend:

Specifically recommend Orchard Cottage’s comfort and its well-equipped kitchen, its safe and secure garden and its location for many activities.

Local Gems:

The local pub a short walk away in the village. A must for those who prefer unspoilt pubs.

The fresh fish shop in the village.

Summary:

“Orchard Cottage- it is impossible not to enjoy”

Wow! what a find - Orchard Cottage has everything you would expect from a village setting, the cottage has so much character and the way it is furnished is completely in keeping with it.

Set in the middle of the village and opposite Beach Road you could walk to the local pub - The Hill House - or be on the beach within minutes. Happisburgh beach is brilliant for dogs and the Hill House for us as well!!

The conservatory at the cottage was a bonus and the garden was so secure our dogs wandered in and out all day long in complete safety - if you want to treat your dogs this place is ideal, I have never seen ours so happy!

Specifically Recommend:

Go see the seals from the beach, the lighthouse and church tower are open on certain weekends - walk to the Star at Lessingham - it’s not that far! ....... and of course the Hill House!

Local Gems:

Yet again Stalham Chippy must be one of the best in Norfolk.

Special mention for the Hill House - they now have their own micro brewery and the ales on offer really cannot be beaten - ask the Landlord for some of his special chilli scratchings - if you can eat them you will be in his Hall of Fame!!

Simon S, Bagworth, Leics - 21st July 2015

Owner’s Reply:

’’Thank you, thank you for the lovely cottage review. We do work really hard, so it’s great to hear we are doing things right. Pete said....you might make the Hall of Fame with the chilli scratchings but you may also make A&E!’’ - Leonie

“So good we wished we lived there!”

Thank you a million times for a genuine safe and secure garden which we’ve come to realise is a rare thing, but so valued for our four legged woof. We shall install doorbells on our gates at home now!

We loved breakfast on the patio, a cuppa in the conservatory after a long walk on the beach and the lovely framed posters in bedrooms too. It’s a stylish and comfortable home that was so well equipped we managed to cook a celebratory meal for my parents who visited on their golden wedding anniversary. As fellow East Ruston groupies they were terribly impressed too.

Specifically Recommend:

Loved the short walk to the beach and the pub, the safe garden and the fab service from East Ruston cottages as always.

“Beautiful cottage, lovely village.”

The cottage was lovely - cosy and larger than we expected, the garden was beautiful, safe and spacious. We were within walking distance of the sandy beach, village pub and local shop.

It makes a change to find a place that is so beautiful. Well equipped, dog-friendly and a totally relaxing environment.

The weather was incredible for early March and we thoroughly enjoyed a day on The Broads and many beach and coastal walks. All the locals were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you

“Absolutely fantastic place to stay”

Orchard Cottage was absolutely perfect for our needs. Fantastic location, very close to the beach which was great for the dogs to visit every day!

The cottage itself is gorgeous, very, very dog friendly with wooden and tiled floors on the ground floor which is great for wet, sandy dogs returning from the beach! The kitchen is very well equipped, it had absolutely everything we needed. The bedrooms are very comfortable, the duvets and pillows so soft!!! The living accommodation was great, comfortable chairs, decent sized TV, DVD player and music system for entertainment. The house was spotless on our arrival and the welcome pack and fresh flowers were lovely touches.

The village of Happisburgh is so quiet and peaceful, just perfect for a relaxing break. A great base for our days out including visits to Bacton Woods, Holkham and various RSPB reserves in the area. Can’t wait to return next year!

Leonie provides lots of thoughtful extras like fire making materials, poo bags, dog bowls, dog towels, music and sound systems and a well-equipped kitchen.

We were within minutes of the beach and glorious costal walks and easily fell into a routine of long daily walks, tea and toast and snoozes.

Specifically Recommend:

Lovely big garden for the dogs

Local Gems:

Smallsticks Caf - 45 mins walk along the beach or coastal path, just behind the Happisburg Lifeboat station

“Truly dog-friendly home-from-home in a superb location”

I can definitely recommend this property. The location was perfect for our four dogs as it was only 400 yards from the beach and surrounded by lovely countryside.

The cottage was clean and comfortable and there were cakes, strawberries, dog biscuits and fresh flowers to welcome us on arrival.

There are many places of interest to visit and the lovely, clean beaches stretch for miles.

Specifically Recommend:

It was a truly dog-friendly cottage with a secure garden and superb walks.

Local Gems:

A gem of a country pub in the village and another with superb food at Lessingham.

“What a find - shouldn’t really be telling you!”

What an absolute gem! Location is superb, a quiet, unspoilt Norfolk village, a five minute walk to a fantastic beach that in August was almost deserted. Nearby facilities are only a five minute drive away which is no hardship given there was hardly any traffic around.

The cottage itself is fantastically equipped, clean and the garden perfectly safe for my nine month old terrier.

I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a relaxing, peaceful time with choice on your doorstep for activities and more vibrant places such as Great Yarmouth and Cromer. I will definitely be returning.

Specifically Recommend:

Relaxing beach location even in the middle of August.

Local Gems:

Halt Cafe for Sunday Carvery - basic but plentiful.

Hill House pub - friendly and traditional with own brewed ale.

Walk along the beach from Happisburgh to Cart Gap and eat at the Smallsticks cafe.

“Worth staying at ”

The property was photographed well so gave an accurate description of the place. All needs were catered for even down to the dog bed and bowls - really well thought out.

A very clean property with good size rooms, radios, televisions, dvd player all entertainment needs met. I would stay at this property again as the family really enjoyed it and we have friends in the village so go there every year.

There was a warm welcome on arrival - strawberries and homemade cake - what a nice touch after a long journey.

Specifically Recommend:

A well described property with all needs catered for.

Local Gems:

Hillside pub carvery on a Sunday

Summary:

“Fantastic, light and airy house, very dog-friendly and set in an idyllic location”

Orchard Cottage is a lovely light & airy house, simply but comfortably furnished with everything you need to make your stay enjoyable. It was very clean and tidy with lots of storage space and very easy with the dogs - lots of room for the crate, hard floors etc The garden is lovely - very spacious and the perfect place to sit out and relax.

The setting couldn’t be better - so close to the beach, but not busy at all and very dog-friendly.

Cakes and dog treats on arrival were a lovely touch, as was the treasure hunt for the kids!

Specifically Recommend:

The garden is lovely and the whole of this stretch of coast seems very quiet and dog-friendly.

The beaches are fantastic, quiet and clean.

Local Gems:

Waxham beach - had a whole section to ourselves despite it being a hot day in the summer holidays.

Seeing the seals so close to shore and bobbing up next to our dinghy.

Owner’s Reply:

’’Fantastic review thanks Theresa. Sounds like the house suited you down to the ground and with its level of comfort, great garden and closeness to the beach (not to mention the dog friendly pub, the shop, tea shops and fish shop) it is proving to be very popular already. So pleased you had a good time and thanks once again for taking the time to give it such a glowing review’’ - Sue

It was a very short walk to the beautiful beach which was never busy. Came across a baby seal one morning, it was beautiful.

Loads of storage space, very comfy beds, lovely conservatory to relax in and a lovely secure and private garden. We WILL absolutely be going back.
