Summary:

“Cute, romantic, traditional, stylish....can’t wait to return!!”

Had high expectations for this place which were only exceeded on arrival. The interiors of the cottage have been very tastefully designed and feel unique yet very tradtional at the same time. Found all the furnishings to be of high quality and the kitchen to be more than adequate for the preparation of meals.

The Morso is amazing and it’s impossible to be cold if you can get it to light! - luckily we had no problems as it appears my girlfriend is something of a pyromaniac - but the visitor books suggest a few had problems so perhaps make sure one of you have some idea of how to start a fire (or you can always buy the entire stock of firelighters from the local shop)

You should be able to tell from the pictures, but just to point out again that if you are not partiuclarly mobile it may be difficult to get up and down from the bed as the stairs to the loft are difficult to negotiate. Also, I’m 6ft 3 so had to bend a little in the kitchen and bathroom but the main living area was plenty spacious. For me, these two things only added to the cuteness of the place but it may be worth noting for others.

Difficult to leave, will certainly return.

Specifically Recommend:

Make time to read through the visitors’ books on your first evening. A wealth of knoweldge on what to see, do and eat and some very nice love stories thrown in for good measure.

Try not to feel too guilty for ending your outdoor pursuits early so that you can spend more time in the cottage!

Local Gems:

Difficult to drag ourselves away from the cottage but when we did.....
Local beaches are all beautiful, Mwnt particulary so.

Lemon meringue ice cream from Cartws cafe at Penbryn beach was YUM!.....follow it with a challenging but rewarding walk to Llangrannog and back and you don’t even have to feel guilty about getting a second.

En Route:

Stopped in the Falcon hotel in Carmarthen on the way. Nice place for a good value lunch. Nothing fancy but large portions of good food and a hearty fire roaring in the corner.

Were in a hurry home so nothing to report.

Summary:

“This is a perfect place for a relaxing break for two people”

The cottage was like a grown-up dolls house - small (as accurately described on the website), but completely adequate and very cosy.

Specifically Recommend:

Light the fire and relax

Be Aware:

No mobile phone coverage - but that’s a good thing!

Local Gems:

There are walks from the cottage and a good village shop less than a mile away.

The coast at Llangranogg (pubs, cafes, beach and coast path) is about a 10 minute drive and fantastic.

Also locally is a very good farm shop and a trout farm and smokery. The dogs loved it all...

En Route:

The National Wool Museum (Llandysul SA44 5UP - Free entry - see website - Ed)

Summary:

“It was a sheer delight. Tyr Gof itself is something special, magical even! And the area is breathtakingly beautiful”

The cottage is tiny - but adorable. There is a Morso wood-burning stove that gives out plenty of warmth, of course, and the wonderful smell of wood smoke. We went in July when it wasn’t cold at all, but we just had to light it - for the fun of it! We weren’t disappointed.

The downstairs is all one room really with kitchen area and living - dining area. But the main ceiling is high and beamed so it feels spacious. The furniture is very old and characterful, in keeping with the rest of the cottage, but the bathroom and kitchen areas are modern and well equipped I would say.

There are two comfy settees and two little lamps. The floor is Welsh slate as is the kitchen work surface - beautiful. The mezzanine bedroom space is up a set of ladder-style stairs - a tiny bit scary at first but soon got used to.

Outside there is a well kept enclosed garden at the front and a raised patio area with a table and bench set at the back. The cottage is set on a road but it’s a quiet road - the traffic didn’t bother us at all and I’m the sort of person who really notices that sort of thing.

It’s a very short walk to Rhydlewis itself that has a shop-Post Office but not much more - and this is not well stocked, but OK for bare essentials. However there is a Londis on the main coast road (not more than 3 or 4 mins drive) that sells everything.

Llangranog beach is the nearest and it’s lovely, although it can get busy - so great for people watching! There are any number of other beaches nearby including secluded coves off the coastal path - get yourself a good local guide book. (The best one is Walking the Ceredigion Coast Path by Liz Allen, 4.95 GBP). The countryside inland, around the Preseli hills, is very beautiful and very Welsh unlike the more Anglicised South Pembs.

Although we have marked the individual aspects as ’very good’ the overall experience was excellent due to the charming nature of the cottage. We were bowled over by its charm and ambience - very, very special. The whole experience of staying in Tyr Gof, an old blacksmith’s cottage by the way, really is a delight.

Specifically Recommend:

Light the Morso - but you’ll have to sleep with all the windows open if it’s Summer!

Read the visitors’ books - full of useful info and some very funny entries.

Be Aware:

There is no mobile phone signal and no TV - once you get used to it it’s great!

We managed to light the stove, no problem, because we used to have one, but other people might need instructions - and there weren’t any.

Local Gems:

Have fish and chips at the front in Llangranog - the best ever!

Do walk a stretch of the coastal path - it’s a bit steep in places but really worth the effort. Just go up the path either side of Llangranog and within minutes you’ll be rewarded with breath-taking views, and you might catch sight of seals and dolphins if you’re lucky.

En Route:

Newcastle Emlyn is a wonderful old market town that seems to be thriving still. There are several good cafes and bakeries, one or two take-aways (apparently the Jasmine Indian is excellent) and at least two pubs. Also a number of art-craft shops as well as ’real’ shops.
