“Dolau Canol is a stunning retreat in a lovely Welsh valley”
This is the second time our band has stayed at Dolau Canol for a creative get away, and again we were delighted with the property.
The cottage is lush and cosy, and the setting is stunning. The huge kitchen is ideal for group cooking. There’s plenty of room to spend time together, but you can also retreat for some private time too.
It’s a great location for a quiet escape from the world. We will definitely be returning again in the future.
Stock up on food and wine, spend your time cooking and relaxing!
Local Gems:We didn’t venture far away...the cottage is gem enough!
En Route:Head to Lampeter for shopping. There’s not much in Llanybeddyr, but you can get just about anything you need 15 minutes away.

“It exceeded our expectations in every way possible”
We knew from the UTT website photos that it would be good - but the reality was so much better!
The fact that it had been so lovingly restored created a warm, welcoming feeling that made it feel like a home rather than a holiday cottage
The cottage has been restored by the owners, a conservation architect, and a collector of Welsh quilts. We stayed in 2009 and it had been recently finished.
Their personal touch is everywhere in the cottage - from the detail of the sympathetic refurbishment to the beautiful Welsh quilts hanging on the walls and covering the beds, to the thought that has gone into fitting out the kitchen with everything you could possibly need...It’s a delight to stay in.
There are books everywhere - you really don’t need to bring your own as the library is extensive and varied. The kitchen is simple, spacious with a good cooker, dishwasher, fridge, freezer etc., and extremely well equipped with utensils, crockery, glasses and linen. We cooked most evenings and wanted for nothing.
A separate slate-floored utility-laundry room was brilliant for cleaning the dogs down after a muddy walk across the fields and a dip in the river. They were in heaven!
Dolau Canol is very spacious and despite its age had a light and airy feel throughout - especially in the bathroom which was simple but stylish and afforded the wonderful treat of lying in the bath and being able to look straight out of a low window framed by cherry blossom at the rolling hills and fields beyond.
The bird life is amazing - particularly the abundance of red kites, and the heron that made a slow, stately flight across the house every afternoon.
Roger and Jen were friendly and generous hosts - fresh flowers in most rooms when we arrived, Welsh cakes, and endless supply of logs for the wood-burner etc. Plenty of space outdoors to relax in the sun or eat outside.
Pretty much everything.
Great for dogs.
The downstairs’ bedroom and shower-room good for guests with mobility problems.
Jen’s Welsh quilt shop and gallery at the bottom of the road is well worth a visit - expect to be tempted by the fabulous selection of vintage quilts and blankets!
