“Fantastic, relaxing and comfortable”

We stayed at Owl Hayes and found it clean and nicely furnished, very comfortable with all your needs and wants met.

The accommodation is a beautiful conversion and is well equipped and decorated to meet everyone’s needs. It has nice little touches such as games, DVDs, videos, quizzes and research on the history of the area.

The lady of the house, Sally, has a wealth of local knowledge and is able to advise on all local activities and places of interest.

Would love to return in the future.

Summary:

“Excellent as usual, and we will be back”

We have stayed at Godford Farm on various occasions over the last 10 years and have always found it to be excellent.

The cosy cottages have charm and atmosphere (they are barn conversions) yet also have all mod cons, from microwave, fully equipped kitchen, baby equipment (cot, booster seat) to flat screen TV and DVD player.

Furnishings and fittings are updated and renewed regularly, ensuring the cottage always looks smart.

Awliscombe, just outside Honiton, is an excellent base for touring Devon, being in easy reach of various south coast beaches, towns such as Exeter, Taunton and Chard, and a wealth of family-oriented tourist activities. There is always plenty to do!

Specifically Recommend:

Sally’s farmhouse cooked breakfast, with locally sourced bacon, eggs and sausages, and home made potato cakes and jams!!

Summary:

“A really relaxing and enjoyable holiday every visit. Thanks Sally & Richard - see you again soon!”

We found these cottages on the www.devon-farm-holidays.co.uk website which gives comprehensive information, including many photographs of the cottages and surrounding areas.

Owl Hayes and Otter Holt are two separate, fully self-contained cottages expertly converted around 1989 from a very old (17th century) barn facing onto the farmyard.

The cottages are very well equipped. Maintenance of fixtures and fittings is of a very high standard with frequent replacements and refurbishments undertaken over the years we have been staying at Godford Farm.

Each cottage has two bedrooms (one double & one twin), lounge with digital TV & DVD player, kitchen-diner with cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washer-dryer. The bathroom includes over-bath shower.

There is a patio area at rear with table, chairs and barbeque and a small enclosed garden at front with car parking in farmyard directly in front of cottages.

For those with very young children, ride-on toys etc. can be found in the fully enclosed orchard garden by the farm house.

Sally & Richard Lawrence are exemplary hosts which is why we as a family will be visiting again this year, as we have done for at least one week every year since 1989! During this long period, we have never been disappointed and we have always been made extremely welcome whatever the time of year for our visit.

Godford Farm is located in a quiet valley and is surrounded on all sides by the rolling Blackdown Hills. There are lots of opportunities to explore the surrounding beautiful countryside, hamlets and villages.

For those wishing to visit the seaside, Sidmouth is the nearest beach. There are many others, including some very secluded ones, along this Jurassic coastline.

There is plenty of good food and drink to be had. Just ask Sally the best places to visit, but be aware that local eateries may require you to reserve your table in advance due to their popularity!

Be Aware:

Godford Farm is a busy working dairy farm with a 100 plus herd of pedigree Holstein Fresian cows. Visitors are welcome to view cows being milked morning and late afternoon and children are especially encouraged to help feed the young calves.

Depending on the time of year, there may be opportunities to see other farming activities too, ask Sally or Richard for details.

Local Gems:

Towns to visit - Honiton, Sidmouth, Seaton, Beer, Lyme Regis, Exeter.

Places to visit - Walks around the farm itself including up the hillside to Buckerell Nap (map provided to visitors).

The Old Bakery Tea Room, Branscombe (NT), Knightshayes (NT), Lyme Bay Winery, Pecorama, Beer, House of Marbles at Bovey Tracey, Seaton Tramway, Seaton, South Devon Railway & Buckfast Abbey at Buckfastleigh. Exmoor and Dartmoor.

Places to eat - Otter Inn, Weston nr Awliscombe Keepers Cottage, Kentisbeare Mocha Restaurant, Sidmouth Old Bakery Tearoom, Branscombe.

En Route:

Over the years we have travelled via Stonehenge, Avebury and even Clarke’s Outlet Village at Street. We try to make the journey to and from Godford Farm a real part of our holiday, not just a chore to be endured!
