Summary:

“Lovely cottage - good base to explore Dorset”

This was a lovely cottage, very peacefully located in a Dorset village. Cottage was well equipped and everything was organised very well.

Parking available and single storey so good access for anyone with mobility issues. Good base for visiting Dorset and its coast.

Specifically Recommend:

Book early!

Be Aware:

One downside was that the village pub was only open Weds-Sunday lunchtime and there was nowhere else to walk to for a drink and food

Local Gems:

Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens

Summary:

“CHURCH FARM STABLES, DORSET - ONE NOT TO BE MISSED”

This is a superbly and elegantly furnished and equipped property in a country village location that can best be described as ’chocolate box’. In a word - idyllic.

Quiet, tranquil and an excellent base for visiting the beautiful and historic counties of Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire.

A plethora of excellent pubs-restaurants within a radius of a few miles, and Salisbury, with the magnificent Cathedral and its original copy of Magna Carta, (sights not to be missed) is less than an hour away, with a splendid park-and-ride system making the city centre easily accessible and without parking problems.

Self-catering farm cottages in the UK have been my holiday choice for many years, and Church Farm Stables is one of the very best that I have found.

I have no hesitation in giving it my fullest and heartiest recommendation.

Specifically Recommend:

Location it is such an excellent base for visiting this part of the South West, whether in search of beach or cultural pursuits.

Local Gems:

Historic properties such as Cerne Abbas, Montacute House, Athelhampton House, Sherborne New Castle and Tolpuddle...history is a particular interest of ours.

Too many excellent local(ish) pubs for evening meals to list here. Plenty of information is provided by the property owner.

En Route:

Not really...our longest (unscheduled!) stop was on the A34 approaching the junction to the M40 and that would hardly rate my recommendation!

Summary:

“A lovely place to stay for visiting Dorset’s scenic countryside”

The property is situated in a peaceful setting and an ideal location for touring Dorset. It is spacious, well-equipped and very comfortable and not far from a local store for any provisions needed.

We received a very warm and friendly welcome from Olivia, which included a very nice cake from the local store. She also made it clear that if we needed anything we only had to knock on her door which was just across the way.

This is definitely a property we’d be happy to return to.

Specifically Recommend:

An excellent location for touring Dorset and its beautiful countryside views.

Summary:

“An excellent cottage in a good location for touring the many attractions of Dorset”

As our stay coincided with Dorset’s wettest summer in memory it was lovely to have such a well appointed and cosy cottage to return to, to escape the rain!

We received a very warm welcome from Olivia, the owner, and she made it clear we only had to cross the courtyard if we had a problem.

The cottage is in a central location making it easy to reach any part of the county and there was a lot to see and do, even when the weather was inclement.

I would thoroughly recommend staying at this cottage.

Specifically Recommend:

Each of the two bedrooms had its own bathroom.

Local Gems:

Several really good pubs nearby which did excellent food. The Gaggle of Geese in the village and The Brace of Pheasants in Plush.

Cerne Abbas, Lyme Regis and Sherborne, Forde Abbey etc.

Steam train to Swanage and visit Corfe Castle en route.

“The finest self catering accommodation available!”

Church Farm Stables is a special place, with its tranquil setting and spacious, yet cosy rooms. The well arranged accommodation is tastefully decorated and equipped to a very high standard throughout, with great attention to detail.

The kitchen has everything you’ll need, the bedrooms are light and airy, the beds wonderfully comfortable.

It was a pleasure just to relax and browse the books in the sitting room - a real home from home.

The heated towel rails in the two bathrooms are a lovely touch!

We were given a warm welcome and were very well looked after by the owner, Mrs Olivia Archer, who could not have been more kind and helpful.

A place to return to time and again.

Specifically Recommend:

Please note that whilst we do not have a mobility rating, we do have a ramp at the front of the property which is good for wheelchair users or those using walking sticks. Plugs are higher and light switches lower, for ease of use.

Please contact us to discuss any particular mobility issues you have. We take a break from November to April - but if you would like to find out more about booking Church Farm Stables or our B&B at Church Farm please do not hesitate to visit our website

Summary:

“An elegant cottage from which to savour Dorset’s lovely villages and countryside ”

Church Farm Stables is a very special cottage in an idyllic setting. The rooms were a pleasure to stay in, bright and decorated in a soothing elegant style typical of good English decor.

Two lovely bedrooms, a charming sitting and dining area, super kitchen with modern appliances, and two pretty bathrooms.

The setting was a tonic. Sheep grazed on the hillside close by our windows, the ancient village church bell tolled the hours softly.

There are many beautiful villages dotted all around for walking and exploring. Cerne Abbas is just a few minutes by car.

The proprietor is exceedingly helpful and kind. Our kids loved the trampoline and lovely country walks

Specifically Recommend:

Good pubs and lovely villages, some of the world’s most stunning countryside views.

Local Gems:

So many good places.....
The Gaggle of Geese pub right in the village

Abbotts Tearoom in Cerne Abbas

The European in Piddletrenthide

Ancient architecture, elegant shops and eateries in Sherborne. All very close.

En Route:

We travelled from Canada on an extended holiday. From Derbyshire we stopped in Tewksbury and loved the excellent museum. Our kids didn’t want to leave.

The Crumpets Tearoom on Water Street is cosy with good food and service
