“Fantastic, relaxing location to spend four nights ”
This was a fantastic place for chilling out. The little extra treats like cream tea and cheese and wine were really appreciated.
There are plenty of pubs within a short drive to spend a pleasant evening if you want to eat out, or just stay in if you want.
The cottage is just perfect for a break if you wish to get away from it all.
Local Gems:West Bay was pleasant and the place where TV show Broadchurch was filmed.

“An immaculate, peaceful, countryside cottage suitable for everyone”
We had a fantastic stay as Rose Retreat, everything had been thought of, right down to toothbrushes! It was a home from home.
Feeding the hungry fish every day and seeing the sheep in the field next door, our daughter loved.
It was well located for the motorway giving access to all beaches and attractions. A peaceful, well kept cottage, we will be returning!
The snooker room and computer were a real bonus!
We were so busy we didn’t get a chance to dive into the library’s-worth of books and DVDs, you will never be bored!
We would recommend visiting Dawlish and Becky Falls for all families.
En Route:Cheddar Gorge is fantastic!

“A wonderfully restful honeymoon break for us, exactly what we hoped for and more”
Rose Retreat has been beautifully converted, it far exceeded our expectations. It was extremely comfortable and homely - including the friendly cats that visited when it rained!
The whole setting was tranquil, down to the uninterrupted views across the sheep in the field outside the balcony. The stairs up to the main living area made us feel away from the world. The tray of goodies provided made us feel very welcome and gave us the perfect excuse to have a cream tea on the balcony as the sun set (supplemented with items from the pantry in Cullompton) and late night snacks in front of a good film.
A detailed resource book was provided with a full set of information and directions although to make the most of the break we found home-cooking was easier. The kitchen has everything you need however the hobs were very slow but got there in the end. (NB - Please see Owner’s Reply at foot of page)
My husband especially enjoyed feeding the Koi Carp in the pond at the bottom of the stairs.
Di and her husband are both lovely people and we look forward to visiting again in the future.
Sitting on the balcony with a cream tea listening for the sheep that goes ’’Moo’’ - yes there really was one!
Be Aware:Due to an unseasonable cold snap the heating settings meant the hot water was limited but only took 20 mins to reheat. In sunny conditions this wouldn’t be an issue or in winter as the set-up is different so again wouldn’t be a problem
Local Gems:Cullompton - everything about this local town was wonderful but especially The Pantry and butchers!
En Route:The Horse with the Red Umbrella in Dorchester, always wonderful food and cakes with friendly service.
Helen B, Ropley, Nr. Alresford, Hants - 26th April 2012
Owner’s Reply:The hobs are ceramic and heat instantly. They are checked before new people arrive and have never been found faulty, so perhaps they did not turn them on fully. We always ask guests to let us know immediately if they have any problems so that we can put things right for them, and we are only sorry that this wasn’t mentioned to us during their stay - Di

“Doubt there is anywhere better”
I stayed at both Rose Retreat & Honeysuckle hideaway during a period between February 2011 and April
I seem to spend my life in hotels, and indeed had done so in several hotels in this specific area of Devon prior to the dates stated above.
It was the best decision I have made regarding away-from-home accommodation.
Both properties are wonderfully comfortable, spotlessly clean and a pleasure to be in, with just about everything you could require, and everything is very high quality.
The hosts, Di & Richard also deserve special mention, unintrusive but attentive and extremely helpful.
I am currently working in Fife, I would like to transport one of these properties there!!

“Warm, quiet, cosy cottage with a lovely balcony, where one may sit sipping champagne, whilst watching and listening to the wildlife, pure heaven!”
Rose Retreat was tucked away in a quiet country lane. The property was beautifully decorated, warm, quiet and very homely and comfortable. It was lovely to have our own private balcony, and to watch the wildlife in the fields.
It is a beautiful rural retreat and the owners were very accommodating and extremely helpful, without being intrusive.
This property would suit couples or families as it is very spacious and lends itself to peace and harmony. In inclement weather - it is great to just stay at Rose Retreat, play pool, and watch a good DVD. When the weather improves Dartmoor is wild and mysterious.
A beautiful place in a beautiful part of the world.
Excellent for romance. Remember to pack wine, flowers and chocolates....

“What a beautiful place to chill out”
The four of us just wanted to get away from the rat race for a couple of days. The accommodation was first class and every small detail was taken care of.
The location was very quiet but within driving distance of places of interest. We never even turned on the TV as we happily played board games and cards.
We would recommend this place to people that need to get away from everything and just do nothing.
Set in such a beautiful location you can’t miss out on the lovely country walks.
Local Gems:The local pub served beautiful food at a reasonable price.

“Great peaceful, relaxing place to chill out!”
What a fab place, bonus was the Snooker Room, my wife beat me, as per usual!
The views are great and sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine is our idea of bliss.
The barn was presented in 5 star class with all the entertainment you could wish for, large TV and a Mac PC.
Di & Richard are wonderful hosts, very friendly and easy to get on with.
Very quiet and peaceful. This location will suit most people.
Two good pubs nearby which serve good food.
If you are like us, the Chill Out Factor is second to none.

“It is the most wonderful place to go and do nothing....exactly what I needed”
This was a lovely place to stay. It was very peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed on our first weekend away of the year.
It was wonderful to open our curtains and see the birds of prey sat in the trees. We really enjoyed the afternoon tea that was waiting for us when we arrived and the extra snacks were greatly appreciated.
There was a good choice of DVDs and plenty of books to read.
We would definitely recommend this to our friends.

“5 Star luxury but with the freedom of self-catering”
Have been going to Rose Retreat for the past seven years and have enjoyed celebrating many birthdays and anniversaries since.
5 star luxury with the freedom of self-catering. So much attention to detail.
The accommodation is so wonderful it is easy to stay in and chill but there are also some great walks within easy reach of the cottage.
If you need to recharge your batteries this is definitely the place to go.

“A fantastic place to re-charge your batteries, with peace and quiet in abundance”
We came here for the third time for another relaxing midweek break and Di and Richard could not be more accommodating and welcoming. The little extras that you don’t normally find in a self catering place made it so comfortable and enjoyable.
The property has a home-from-home feel, complete with a packed book shelf, DVD selection to watch on the flat screen TV, and an Apple computer to play with! (as well as a kitchen full of decent utensils and beautiful crockery - a rare find)!
As the property is primarily on the first floor of the building, we wouldn’t recommend it for people with very limited mobility. However, this does mean that the views from the balcony are absolutely stunning over the immediate rolling countryside and beyond.
The property is always beautifully presented and they must have a very good cleaner, as it is always spotless!
We discovered Otter Nurseries this time, a garden centre with a very large shop and a very highly recommended restaurant....go there hungry!
All in all, another fantastic stay to re-charge our batteries. What luxury to be relaxing mid-morning, looking at the view, snuggled up in the (supplied) very lovely big soft bath robes.... I think there will be a fourth visit!
Walking in the local area. Bring your binoculars, as the wildlife is worth a watch.

“A lovely relaxing break in wonderful surroundings”
Lovely quaint cottage in open countryside with glorious views. Rose Retreat is on two floors. We stayed in the first floor as there were just two of us. The accommodation could sleep 4-6 otherwise.
Richard and Di have paid a lot of attention to detail and anyone would struggle to need anything that wasn’t provided - even food to feed the fish in the pond just outside! Breakfast food is provided by request each morning.
BBQ facilities mean that you can enjoy more of the outside and then chill indoors by either playing pool or snooker, listening to the music provided, play games, watch DVDs etc. Lots of things to choose from.
Di and Richard got the accommodation spot on - even their cats are a pleasure!
The whole package

“The whole experience has been wonderful and it’s a shame it’s over, for now.”
The accommodation was very accurately described but was even better than expected. It was very homely, and comfortable, and very relaxing.
The accommodation had everything that you could possibly want or need, and the surroundings were absolutely beautiful. It is a wonderful place to recharge your batteries.
Everything that you want or need is supplied, I don’t think that there is anything that needs to be changed. Would recommend to all our friends and family.
Your accommodation is very welcoming and has a welcome hamper, and also all of your essentials, such as all produce for a full English breakfast, wine, tea coffee etc. so you do not have to rush out to purchase everything before your break can start
Be Aware:If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and friendly atmosphere to take a break this is just the place for you

“Sensational - could not have asked for anything more”
It was very comfortable and clean, with good provisions of every day items like tea, coffee, sugar, washing-up liquid, kitchen and toilet roll, plus toiletries in the bathrooms - nothing was forgotten.
The snooker table was great and the broadband was lovely. The beds were comfortable and the TV reception was great.
It is very quiet and relaxing, the views are lovely and there is a very friendly cat who visited us daily.
The property is just wonderful - it is so quiet and relaxing and the views are lovely.

Not a property for little children or anyone who finds stairs difficult.

“Described by the owners as... ’A luxury self-catering barn conversion in rural Devon’ - exactly right!”
The accommodation was lovely with many extra touches.... selection of books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, toiletries, kitchen equipment and refreshments. Everything we could think of had been included.
Welcome hamper was lovely.
It was in the middle of farm land and very peaceful yet was not too far from Exeter City.
Somewhere where you can take life at your own pace.
Breakfast is included but is taken at your leisure.
Sparkford - on the A303. The villagers do breakfasts for passing traffic in the village hall and use the proceeds for village projects. It is done every Saturday morning during the school holidays. It was a lovely breakfast with a few choices including cereal. Much nicer than any services!

“A totally relaxing experience - a chance to re-charge our batteries in an idyllic part of the country”
If peace and tranquility is what you crave, then Rose Retreat is the place for you. It is situated at the end of a private lane where you find two secluded properties and the owners’ house.
It is a very pretty place with flower pots galore and beautiful little ponds housing fish and the odd duck! The outside space is well thought out with a balcony overlooking the glorious countryside and another seating area where you can admire the fish in your own private little pond.
This is a luxurious break. Every day you are provided with all the ingredients for a full English breakfast plus cereals, juice, yoghurt, tea, coffee and milk. A welcome basket is provided with wine, snacks, cheese and a Devon cream tea. The reality is you can arrive without the worry of packing everything you normally require for your first evening and next day breakfast - it is all provided.
I have stayed at quite a few cottages, which always look quaint and comfortable but this is not always the case. Usually the bed and settees have seen better days but at Rose Retreat the bed is absolutely luxurious and the sofas are very very comfortable.
The bathroom has a fantastic power shower and double-ended bath. Everywhere is very clean and well equipped and it is definitely the best accommodation I have ever stayed at
Away-from-it-all location
Peace and quiet (apart from the birds)!
Excellent attention to detail and quality furnishings.

“We were delighted with Rose Retreat and had a wonderful stay ”
If anything the website and brochure don’t do the property justice as to how pretty it is. There were so many little thoughtful touches, and not just generic but tailored to us and our visit.
The accommodation was spotlessly clean, very nicely furnished and the bedroom was stunning, very romantic with a 4 poster bed that was really comfy and with a choice of types of pillow. There is both a double-ended bath and a rain shower in the bathroom and a plentiful supply of towels.
There are films, games, books, CDs, internet, everything you could possibly want - if you were snowed-in for a week you wouldn’t be bored, and that’s before we come to the snooker table downstairs!
The cooking facilities are good, with hob, oven, grill and microwave and there is a dishwasher. The setting is idyllic, there is a beautiful pond with fish we could feed and stunning views over the countryside. There are two patio balcony areas for sitting outside and it is blissfully serene. We saw deer a couple of times from our balcony, it really was a perfect weekend escape.
Everything. If you are looking for somewhere peaceful, and very thoughtfully put together this is for you. There are places nearby to visit but you could happily just stay in the whole length of your visit and not run out of things to do.
We particularly liked the extra rooms downstairs that could be booked if there were more people, as they were self-contained with their own kitchen and bathroom so if two couples went, you still have your own space (we liked that these are never booked separately too!). Everything about this is so well thought out.
I really do think that it was perfect, they seemed to have already thought of everything

“Perfect chill-out place to recharge depleted batteries”
It was just as described in the brochure .... yet way beyond for comfort and decor
Quiet, peaceful and hosts very welcoming.
Accommodation excellent - everything you could wish for was available.
Surroundings could be seen for miles, lanes brilliant to drive around.
Could reach shops, seaside, countryside easily
